Mary McBlain is my gg grandmother born in County Down in circa 1818 came over to Scotland and married twice with families. I am trying to find out more about her Irish roots. Her year of birth was given as c1818 in the 1861 census in Scotland
Her first marriage was in 1835 to David Muir in Scotland.
Have death certificate and she died in 1894 age 79 which puts her year of birth c1815.
Her parents are John McBlain and Jane McRoberts. I do not have any information about them.
I would be grateful for any help or advice in my search.
Regards Mirrin

Have a look at Introduction to Irish Records (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,442233.0.html) and My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start? (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,498742.0.html).

My great granny Mary White nee cousins is noted on the 1901 irish census with lodgers named McRoberts. It says they are family. The interesting thing is that my grandmother Anne Mary White who lived with her mother Mary, married my Granda James McBlain in 1902.

hello
I am still trying to find any information regarding my McBlain/White family from Newtownards.
On the 1901 Census my great grandmother Mary White is living with my granny Anne Mary White and my great Uncle William James White. Mary has boarders by the surname McRoberts, who are young children. On the second page it states that they are one family.
Ignore the spellings as they are incorrect.
I am now trying to ascertain if my g grandfather John McBlane /McBlain who married Jane McRoberts is my link and if so did jane give birth to a son called Stuart/ Stewart.
My g grandfather was listed on Stewarts marriage certificate in 1866 as a labourer. He is noted as deceased but the John married to Jane allegedly died in 1860.
Very confusing. Any help would be appreciated

Don't be confused by the Families etc on the House & Building Return (Form B1). Relationships to head are on the household return, the B1 form itemises the head of house (Mary) and the number of males and females residing within that building. All people residing in the same house and eating at the table including boarders, servants and visitors are classed as a Distinct 'Family'.
See the instructions to the Enumerators

Suggest consult the birth images for the McRoberts and their parents marriage on IrishGen.
