Hi,
welcome to rootschat
the posts are from 2007/2008
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,268114.0.html
The person who is searching them rootschat username" King William" is still an active member - she was last on-line just a month ago. You can private message the person by clicking on their profile - but I think new users have to make 3 posts before they can access this. If you make one more post you should be able to access this feature and send a message to King William.
Kind regards :)

So it knew nothing about any of this until I was a teenager!
I have never met any of my gt gt grandmothers whanau so It feels a bit disslocating!Im pakeha of Maori descent.

Ok,

Have got quite a lot on the CARTMAN - Susan NICHOLLS side.
tribal backgrounds are Te Aroha and Mount Maunganui area.
Hera came from Matakana Island
Ngai te Rangi ... :)
Yeah there was a bit of a hiccup in the Cartman - Honey - ? side, not a major one
Its all on the other computer so I can sort you some basics out when I get to it ... 8)

Cheers mk 2 Zepher!
Yeah I know all about the hiccup.Hannah Cartman had twin boys Gilbert and Len.Gilbert (who died recently is my dads Father)
Apparently he was left some land on Matakana Island, thru his mother.Family members are fighting over his will, witch is sad.I have never been there.Should make a trip..
Thanks for the info,I have emailed the Te Rangihouriri Marae for information,I am just guessing...........!

From William Grey NICHOLLS (Susans brother) obituary.
At Te Aroha yesterday there passed away one of the oldest and most respected residents of Ohinemuri district in the person of William Grey Nicholls, at the age of 61 years.
The late Mr Nicholls was universally known and respected throughout the district, and his memory will be held in high respect for many years to come.
William Grey Nicholls was born at Coromandel in the Auckland provincial district on December 26th, 1853.
His father, the late William Nicholls, came from Falmouth, Cornwall, England, and arrived in New Zealand as a passenger by the Aurora. The Aurora landed her passengers at Petone Beach early in 1840.
From Wellington, Mr Nicholls, senior, went north to Tauranga (Bay of Plenty), where he settled for a few years as a farmer, and met and married Hira Te Whakaawa, eldest sister of Te Moananui, chief of the Ngaiterangi tribe. Mr G. W. Nicholls is thus descended, on his mother's side, from an ancient Maori tribe, whose members trace back their descent to Te Te Rangihouhiri, who lived in the Bay of Plenty district about ten generations ago

Hi Mancini & Zephyr
I have in my family Tree a
Catherine Anne NICHOLLS born in Falmouth 8 May 1839.
Catherine Anne came to NZ (Date unknown)
About 1858 Catherine married Thomas HENWOOD a widower in Auckland.
Catherine's parents were William NICHOLLS and Anne PARKYN
Is this just coincidence or a connection ?

No close connection ...
William NICHOLLS parents were Obediah NICHOLLS and Alice GREY.
there are a couple of seperate Nicholls families in the Falmouth area, from harbour mouth to the upper reaches.
You would think with a name like Obediah it would easy to find out more, but its a real slog ... :-\

There are sections on this family (Nicholls) in a new article (copy held at the Treasury, Thames) I am reading by P Hart of waikato University on Joseph Harris Smallman. I'll summarise the key points this pm

Thanks, will flip you an message.
Just one thing, the father is William NICHOLLS, not William Grey Nicholls.
Also he is sometimes noted as William George also incorrect.
I have seen this on a few of the family trees and it seems a mistake is being copied.
Also the LDS material should only be used as a rough guide.
