Title: George Maule married Mary Dickinson
Post by: moggie27 on Saturday 25 June 11 20:39 BST (UK)

George Maule born 1801 married Jane Dickinson born 1800
Can anyone tell me how to find their parents and go back further.  I have looked up Maule family trees and nothing goes back further.  They seemed to have lived in Pimlico or Westminster in London.

Any help or pointers welcome and thanks

Hello :)

Was Jane's father listed as Thomas on her Marriage certificate? Long shot but we may be looking for the same family :) I am looking in to a George Dickinson (Dickeson) b c1803; he eventually moved to Stockport and married. On his second marriage cert. he lists his father as Thomas. I have found a few other Dickinson's who list their father as Thomas on the marriage cert, but like you I am struggling to go back further....

Are you on Genes Reunited?  If so do look at my tree.

All the Maule families finish perhaps start is the good word with George and mary in Westminster but not their parents or befoer that.  My Auntie [Daddies sister] used to spend hours talking about Robert maule who had a shop in Edinburgh that was taken over by Binns and then in 1973 Frasers.  Robert is on another tree in Scotland and this family we have is in westminster.  The Maules owned land in Westminster mainly Pimlico.

Now I am sure there is a link as she would not have talked for hours about it.  She was the eldest and Ernest my father the youngest of the family so 30 years apart.

That is why I wnat to go backwards and in a sense prove a loink but do nto know how to do it without a lot of expense.  So I joined Ancestry for a year to see if it helped me fill the gaps.  I feel Scottish and joined the London Gaelic Choir many moons ago OK not a member now but  also was in teh White heather Club [TV in teh 60's] and so on and can go into the accnt without any problems even though I was brought up in Bromley Kent.

I find it all mind boggling.

Any help welcome as it seems we are chasign the same family.  Where is your link with the Maules?    Love to you Gl;ennsi  *  www.healers2006.co.uk and www.thepalmstaichiclub.co.uk and I am wearing teh brown sash in the photo.  Totally disabled and teach tai chi and it keeps me active

Hi Glennis,

Just posting this 1841 census information for George Maule: (HO107/732/17 f24 p11)

Bindon Place, St George Hanover Square:

George Maule   40 Mason - not born in county
Mary    40  not born in county
James    15
Jane    12
Robert    10
William    8
George    5
Elizabeth 3
Mary    1

All the children are born in-county.

I can't find this family in the 1851 or 1861 censuses. Son George Maule reappears in 1871 having married Harriet Matilda Dickinson in 1869 - was she a cousin perhaps?

thanks for this.  George the younger one was a son of the first George Maule.

I am anxious to get back further and can't find his parents etc not even in the Maule family web site.  appaarently it is family branch 61 and someone said it might be conncted to no 10.  But I can't find it.  desperate to fidn a scottish connection.

Have you thought about naming conventions? For instance:

first son - paternal grandfather's name
first daughter - maternal grandmother's name
second son - maternal grandfather
second daughter - paternal grandmother
third son - father
third daughter – mother

This seems to work for 3rd son (George) and 3rd daughter (Mary).

It would suggest that George Maule's parents might have been James & Elizabeth Maule; and that Mary Dickinson's parents might have been Robert and Jane Dickinson.

No not thought of that but would then have to get proof.  Will put it into ancestry and see what happens.  Glennis
