Subject name: Charles William Edgar ELLIOTT b & lived in 1896 in Daventry. Died of wounds Flanders 26 Apr 1918.
Please could anyone with C1911 kindly look him up (aged 15) for me and hopefully identify his parents, address etc too.
In C1901 aged 5 he was living with his G/mother Sarah Howard (nee Cooper) family - presumably his maternal g/ma side.
http://www.roll-of-honour.com/Northamptonshire/Daventry.html states he is son of Mr & Mrs E Elliott of Daventry but no address and no E Elliotts found in Free BMD. I'm trying to help British Legion to provide more information on the 112 names from WW1 recorded.
Charles enlisted, firstly unusually in Birmingham, and secondly, into 6th Bn Gloucestershire Regt (No 2091813) which could be a clue or a red herring? Died at Corporal rank.
Thanks

Sorry Phil.
We are not allowed to list any information from 1911 Census on

I know it is a problem learning all the rules when we are "fairly newbies",
yet they are there to be of great assistance. :)

FindMyPast site T's & C's in nice, simple, plain english ...
What you can use the service for:
You can only use the website for your own personal non-commercial use, e.g., to research your own family history.
We are also happy for you to help out other people with their family history by telling them about records available on the website and how and where they can be found, including showing them anything within our free search results.
However, you must not provide them with copies of any of the records (either an original image of the record or the information on the results page), even if you provide them for free.

Hi again.
Richard and Isobelruss as you know you are both correct about him
being the son of Charles Herbert Elliott and Bessy/ie Howard checking
against the original Parish Records.
The only thing is as Dorothy did not seem to marry ? or Bessy re-marry?
so the trail seems to go cold as to the direct lineage continuing.
I spoke to the CWGC today and they said that without any Military item/
record that belonged to Charles stating his parents names they were not
sure that they could alter the record as a birth certificate would not suffice. :(
The information obviously was given to the CWGC after Charles passing
but I can not see a link through the family as to who an "E Elliott" they
have stated as father would have been.
I will list in full the original records in a while in case another relative maybe
following the lineage.

Death of a William Edgar is noted as Dec 1893 aged 24.
Therefore it could have been in his memory.

I checked the marriages until 1918 to see if Bessy or Dorothy married,
yet it seems not at the Parish Church.
No marriages showing on FREEBMD.
It would be so good to have the amendment of Charles fathers name
changed on the CWGC web site if further documention could prove without
a doubt that he was not "E Elliott".
The 1901 census seem to suggest as noted that he was with his grand-mother
Sarah Howard on that night.
We know how good Rootchatters are at puzzles.
Hopefully a relative might be able to help confirm his parentage/military life.
Fingers crossed.

I am a descendant of Richard Elliott, through one of his other sons, Thomas. My grandfather, Thomas George, lived with his Uncle Henry, as a child. I believe Thomas George served in WW1 but survived it. I have not been able to find his service records to verify this. I do not know that I have a great deal more to add to your research about Charles, but if you have any questions please ask and I will be happy to check my records.

Rachel

Hi Rachel.
Welcome to Rootschat. :)
Just to up date with quotes from the CWGC I have received by e-mail.
Thank you for your e-mail of 28th June 2011 regarding Charles William Edgar Elliott.
Before we can consider making amendments to the records of any of our casualties, we would ask you to send in some documentary evidence. For an incorrect name, we ask for a copy of the casualty’s’ full birth certificate plus additional documentary evidence connecting the birth certificate with the casualty - this could be a notification of death card, memorial card, obituary notice or service record. The reason for this is that we must be sure that the birth certificate does refer to the casualty commemorated by the Commission.
Dear ****
I have now been able to search our archival material and documentation. None of these indicate any transcription error of what is shown in the record we hold for Corporal Elliot’s next of kin.
As this is the case, we would require the documentation as I mentioned in my last e-mail to be able to consider any amendments to our records.

Just to clarify a couple of things.
There is no known Service Record for Charles.
No newspaper that has survived that might off had an obituary in it.
The other items required maybe in the hands of family members.
Hence as I said here earlier maybe one may see the topic like Rachel
and be able to confirm what the CWGC need.
Therefore this is all the help I can give to this query not being a
family member.
