Anyone with any information about David Colborne born 1885 in Birr County Offally or any of the following people. His parents were David and Alice (nee Hyland) They were living in Kilcolman Parish, Cree in the 1901 census. David and Alice's other children were John, Florence, Fredrick, Mary, Alice, Thomas, Albert, Emily and Anna. David moved to County Durham,England around 1905 to work as a stone mason and married Mary Jane Moss. Any information would be welcome. betsdale

This appears to be the family on the 1901 census :
Colbourne household - townland of Cree (http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/King_s_Co_/Dromoyle/Cree/1464122/)
Husband David born in King's Co., wife Alice born Queen's Co., eldest child born c1880, and all children born in King's Co. So presumably a marriage for David and Alice would be about 1879 or earlier, and possibly in either King's or Queens county.

Thank you for your reply's to my request. They have been very helpful. I have visited the Register Office in Dublin and was lucky with births but ran out of time for David and Alice's wedding and had not managed to find information anywhere else. I now have some more information to work on. Ann

Thank you for information about the Irish Civil Register and Samuel Colborne. Samuel may be a relative. I do know that David Colborne my grandfather was enrolled for a period of time in the Canadian Army. It is given me more ideas for research. Ann

Welcome to Rootschat but please don't use so many CAPITALS (it's considered shouting online).
David and Alice Colborne are here in 1901 census with Thomas (age 9) and lots of other children-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/King_s_Co_/Dromoyle/Cree/1464122
In 1911 it says they had 13 children but only 11 living-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/King_s_Co_/Dromoyle/Cree/553781
The online civil registration index goes up to 1958 so you can look for likely deaths registrations there, then decide if there are any certificates you want to order (it the 4 euro research one you want)-
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347
Note: Cree seems to be in Offaly/Kings Co. not Laois. The Poor Law Union/registration district is Parsonstown.

Couple of things.
The 1911 census differs to the 1901 census because some of the eldest children had left the household not died.
Cree (a townsland) has come under various districts in its time e.g. Ballybritt, Dromoyle, Kilcolman, Fortal, Birr/Parsonstown. County Offaly used to be referred as The Kings County.
Colborne has numerous spelling variants/mis-spellings/changes over the generations, e.g. Coleburn, Coalburn, Colborne, Colburn. Making it more difficult to research. Its modern form is Colbourne. D

The 1911 census clearly states number of children and how many living.

Yes, I stand corrected, misread the statement. Joseph & Ethel died quite young and not mentioned on either 1901/1911 census. D

I have just received a letter today from a Colburn couple in Cree.
They wrote that David Colburn husband of Alice Hyland died in 1926. David and Alice were this person's grandparents.
I am connected to the Colburn families of Cree through Richard Colbourn b. 1808 and shown in the 1821 census. Richard spent his adult life in Tulla, Co Clare.
