My sister and I are just embarking on researching our family tree. Our Father was John Joseph Lynch who was born 1926 in Tipperary but his mothers family came from Killucan and this was where he grew up. His mothers name was Ann Kelly and his Father was James Lynch (we think). John had an older brother who we think was called Christopher who was born about 1922. Ann Kelly died in about 1930 in child birth (we think) John and Christopher were brought up by their mothers sisters in Killucan. One sister might have been Kathleen Mitchell who died 12th Feb 1972 age 70. We think Christopher may have been a monk for a time. John joined the army age 18 and eventually moved to Colchester Essex.
Does anyone know this family, either the Kelly sisters who will all have different names once married of course, or Christopher Lynch?

Probably a good place to start would be to search for the marriage of John Joseph. A cert for this would give you his father's name and occupation so you you then search back for a possible marriage between him and Ann.
Just be careful not to mention details of any living (or possibly living) people since this is not allowed on RootsChat to prevent possible fraud, and to protect their privacy etc
For details on searching the BMD Index, ordering certs etc - see : Introduction to Irish Records (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,442233.0.html)

Thankyou for the advise Shane. All people mentioned have died but Ihadn't realised you shouldn't mention the living although it makes sense.

There's quite a few John Joseph Lynch births in 1926 (see link (https://www.familysearch.org/search/records#count=20&query=%2Bgivenname%3A%22John%20Joseph%22%20%2Bsurname%3ALynch%20%2Bbirth_year%3A1926&collection_id=1408347)) - assuming he was registered with the middle name and the year of birth is accurate .. but the best match seem to be this one :
Name: John Joseph Lynch
Registration district: Tipperary
Event type: Birth
Quarter and year: Jul-Sep 1926
Volume : 3 / Page : 426
The registration district of Tipperary covers the town of the same name, plus quite a number of towns and townlands in the area.
Assuming that we have the correct father's name, Christopher was the eldest in the family, and the couple married in the same area not long before his birth (i.e. 1919-1923) then there's a possible marriage match on the BMD index :
Name: James Lynch
registration district: Tipperary
event type: Marriage
Quarter and year: Jan-Mar 1920
Volume : 3 / Page: 447
Name: Annie Kelly
[same references as James]
It's a long shot... but might be worth trying certs for these while you are sorting out the marriage cert.

Wow that is fantastic.I saw the John Joseph Lynch and think that is definately him. I will get the marriage cert. Thank you that was very quick. I couldn't find anything for James and Ann's marriage but I was putting inKillucan and not Tipperary.

The search works best by registration districts, but it can get confused by districts with the same names as counties - as in Tipperary.
To search towns, townlands and registration districts see the townland database at : www.thecore.com/seanruad (Poor Law Unions are usually the same as Registration Districts)

Hi Claire, this is your sister. :) We also heard that James Lynch was the Clerk of the Court in Dublin and used to commute back and forth in a red sports car - if that rings a bell for anyone.
