Could some kind person search the Larne census for details of James Russell(a tailor born around 1835) and Margaret Whiteford and their eleven children.
One of the sons named Sammy Russell migrated to Australia and married. However he promptly abandoned this new but unfortunate wife on the grounds that he had been drunk when he agreed to marry and went to Cape Town to where his brother Jimmy( my grandfather) had migrated in 1902. Sammy died there in 1918/19 from the Black Flu and was buried in Simonstown. Can anyone throw some light on the baulde Sammy?:D :) ;D

Hi Jack
Are you still looking for Samuel Russell?
Eugene
-
Eugene,
Good of you to ask about Sam Russell.
Yes ,we found him in the 1901 or 1911 census born ca 1874 in Larne. Married Agnes Mc Alpin on 21 March 1906 in Larne. Sam was a fireman & then engine driver. Died from the black 'flu in Cape Town while visiting his elder brother Jimmy, engine driver & later stationmaster at Simonstown,Cape Province.( My grandfather) Sam was a bit of a lad.He abandoned his wife on the grounds that he was drunk when he agreed to marry her.
Best regards,
Jack

Jack,
I had a look for the marriage you mention in your first post on this thread. You were looking for a Margaret Whiteford and JAMES Russell. I can find the marriage of a Samuel Russell to Margaret Whiteford in Larne Presbyterian Church on 5 May 1859. Doing a parent search on the IGI gives only 5 of the children and two of them were named James indicating that the older one, born 1868 had died young and the younger James, born 1875 was your Grandfather.
Regards
ADDED Both fathers were called James and the records spell the name RUSSEL

Seems like his Karma caught up with him pretty quickly.
He was buried here in Simonstown in April 1914.
-
Eugene,
Can you please indicate the source of your information concerning the date of April ,1914 ?
I had assumed he died in 1918/19 only on the base of family lore that the cause of death was the Black 'flu.
