William and Ellen Long ( nee) Keeffe) in the 1901 and 1911. It says he was born in Castletown and she was born in Templeglatine. She died about 20 yrs before him....so I was told......He died about 1940s. Family has not been able to find her burial....Could she have been buried in Templeglatine where she was born? They are both R.C. If the cemetery is not too big, do I dare ask if someone has a digital camera could a photo be taken of her gravestone............
ANY HELP would be much appreciated...........
many thanks .... I sit pateintly waiting for any replies...............

Sorry, don't live anywhere near there, but this might be of interest:

Thank you for your response.... I will read this.

I sent away for a death certificate from Gro and hope that the informant may have been Ellen's husband which would of course help with additional information for me. I am not sure what to do from here onwards....How to find the site of burial? I read on the site that many have written to churches and sent money and never rec'd replies.......Any suggestions would be appreciated MALLA

Once you have a confirmed date then the best bet is probably to check the local paper for a death notice. If there is one, it often mention the name of the church and cemetery.
If you can find that out then the you can search to see if any records are available for the burials, and who might have them.

Thank you, Shane............ I can't wait to get that certificate in the mail.......
Another piece of the puzzle........I will continue to hope......Malla

Well I was so excited and hopeful when I received mail from Ireland today...
I sent for 2 certificates....Marriage for Ellen Keeffe around 1894 and her death as Ellen Long early 1920's unfortunately neither of these was a match..........

Is this the marriage cert you tried ?
Name: William Long
Registration district: Newcastle
Event type: Marriage
Quarter and year: Jan - Mar 1895
Volume : 5 / Page: 423
Name: Ellen O'Keeffe
[same references as William]
1911 census return for reference : Long household, Killaculleen townland (http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Limerick/Glengort/Killaculleen/636110/)
1901 return : Long household (http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Limerick/Glengort/Killaculleen/1507422/)

If Ellen died during the 1920s in the same area as the family lived in 1911, then I would have thought this was the closest match for her death on the BMD Index :
Name: Ellen Long
Registration district: Newcastle
Event type: Death
Quarter and year: Apr - Jun 1926
Age : 55 (est year of birth 1871)
Volume : 5 / Page: 301

Hello Shane,
I am sure a rookie at Irish genealogy........
I just guessed and ordered Ellen Long 1921 July- Sept Vol 5 page 205
of course was wrong
the second one I tried was
marriage of Ellen Keefe 1894 Jan -March Vol 5 page 116.......wrong again.....
I am encouraged by your two suggestions as you have much more expertise than I.....
I think I will get some more Euros and mail my request ......
Now I will keep hoping.......thank you so much Shane
That 1911 census is the one I am looking for
-
I think your problem was matching the registration district - there's a few hints in the following topic on the Ireland Resources board the might help you fine tune your future searches : Tips for searching Irish BMD civil registrations (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,453932.msg2347150.html#msg2347150)
There's a link to a map of the districts in the 2nd post in that thread.
One way to work out the registration district is to use the townland database at : http://thecore.com/seanruad/ PLU or Poor Law Unions are generally the same as Registration Districts.
Templeglantine and Killacullen townlands are in the district of Newcastle, so that's where I'd start the search for records of your Long family.

Thank you once again, Shane.........I can't wait to get these 2 requests mailed...........
and I will indeed do some reading.......in the references you suggested
-
Shane,
Thank you for your expertise.....I am so HAPPY to have rec'd my two research copies from GRO....they are a match....... Can anyone suggest which newspapers would be available for the time mentioned below and would someone have access to find a death notice for Wed March 31, 1926 for Ellen Long. ........ Help is most appreciated........
-
I am not very familiar with the area - but since the Registration District is based in the town of Newcastle West I would think that would be the location to try first for local newspapers. The newspaper index on the National Library website shows one newspaper published at the right time in the town. They hold for limited dates... not including 1926 :
Weekly Observer
Place of publication: Newcastle West, Co. Limerick
Publication dates: 1915 - 1927
21 Aug 1915 - 1919 (microfilm)
6 Aug. - 3 Dec. 1927 (hardcopy)
maybe a library in the area would have additional dates, or someone from the area might be able to suggest another paper to try ?

A generous man checked the Limerick Chronicle and the Limerick Leader for a death notice for March 31st, 1926 and a few days afterwards........No luck....still hoping....
-
Hi
If you contact the Limerick County council the water department ( the water departments have the
cemeteries in their departments also) and they should be able to give you a list of cemeteries in the
Newcastlewest area plus the contact details for the cemetery supervisors.
Their email address is water[at]limerickcoco.ie (replace [at] with @) or you can look up the website www.lcc.ie go into waterdepartment.
Good luck with that.

Hi Malla,
Hope it will help you some bit.
I had a look at the census for 1911 which ShaneW put up on an earlier post and noticed that William put Tournafulla in the place for his signature and crossed it out. Then I checked Glengort and found it to be in Tournafulla. I did a search on cemeteries in Tournafulla and came across site www.limerickdioceseheritage.org/Tournafulla Past magic has already mentioned this site but with Templeglantine.
The following cemeteries seem to be the ones in that area -
Templeglantine West,
Monagea,
Abbeyfeale,
Mount Collins
and also if you go into rip.ie and key in Tournafulla three cemeteries seem to be used for that area currently
1. cemetery attached to the Church of the Most Holy Trinity Templeglantine
2. St Patricks Church Tournafulla
3. St Itas Cemetery Killeedy
Also just a note which might help others you can find Obits and funeral reports
1880-1922 for the Limerick Chronicle on the following site -
www.limerickcity.ie/media/Media,9270,en/doc
Hope the above will help you

Hi Mary,
I have checked out the two sites you mentioned. Great info.... I have sent out an email and am hoping to possibly find the burial location of Ellen in 1926......I will try not to give up.....I am learning much about trying to research for relatives in Ireland.....When someone does ask me then at least I will be able to guide them somewhat......Pass on the knowledge...I say.... I appreciate your kindness and will keep on reading and learning.....MALLA
-
Well almost the end of 2011...Hoping a location can be found in 2012.... All the best to everyone for 2012 :)
-
Hi Malla
Happy New Year to you too. It is a pity after all our work not to have located the headstone.
Hope 2012 will be the year you get positive news on the location.

Name: William Long
Registration District: Limerick
Event Type: DEATHS
Registration Quarter and Year: Jan - Mar 1942
Estimated Birth Year: 1874
Age (at Death): 68

Hi Jila,
have you any idea where in Co. Limerick he lived? The best thing would be to get a death cert first and then you will have an exact place of death and some body might look up a newspaper for you or you could contact the local priest for some information. Without narrowing down the location it is almost impossible to get a result.
To order death certs go to www.gro.ie ( general registry office) quoting the vol no and page number.
