I am trying to find the parents of Frederick Howes, who was born about 1823, in Westinton, Suffolk (according to the 1881 Census). He seems to have moved to North East England as he got married to Ann Griffiths in the Stockton district in 1843. I am assuming that Ann must have died and he married Hannah Maria Nayton (or Naylor) in 1860 in the Hartlepool district. I have found him on the 1861 census which shows his place of birth as Stockton but the line above shows Suffolk so this entry looks as though it may be an enumerators transcription error. I can't find him on any earlier census. Also I haven't been able to locate a Westinton in Suffolk.
In 1871 he is shown as a Seaman and in 1881 he is a Fishmonger. On the 1861 Census he is shown with Mariah his wife (this is probably Hannah Mariah Nayton) and three children, George, Frances and one other whose name I can't decipher. It looks as thought he died in 1883 in Middlesborough.
Can anyone help me identify his roots in Suffolk?

Many thanks Sue. I've just been trying to identify the "Sarah" who married Joseph and your information confirms what ksmart66 and I have managed to establish, with one extra detail, that she came from Dunwich. That's excellent. Another piece to the jigsaw. Thanks so much.
Kind regards.
Chris.

TV Channel 4 have been at Dunwich this week, it's really interesting little place. Much of it has fallen into the sea over the centuries, so from being the largest port on the east coast it is now a pretty little village.

Hi Alan,
Welcome to Rootschat ;D
When you have made three posts (you have just one more to go) you can send a personal message to other Rootschatters.
If you find the post that you mention to Sue, you need to click on the little green scroll on the left hand side, that will bring a form up ready to send a message.
Alternatively you can click on the little 'baby face' also on the left of the message, this brings a form telling you a little bit about the person. At the bottom there is a 'send this Rootschatter a message' which you can click on and again a form will come up that you can fill in with your message.
Hope this helps.
Suffolk Sue is very prolific as you can see by the number of posts she has made and she is a great help to researchers on here 8)
