Title: Army marriage in Ireland
Post by: helfl on Friday 17 June 11 23:18 BST (UK)

I have been trying to find the marriage of my gt gt grandparents and after a year have hunting have drawn a blank.
I believe that my gt gt grandad served for a short while in the 103rd regiment of foot, which I beleive he joined in Plymouth and then possibly moved to Ireland with them. During this time he may have got married - sometime between 1874 - 1879
Does anyone know if there is anywhere I could search for a military marriage, or else a marriage in Ireland?
Thank you in anticipation

Helen

The above link only contains some Irish marriages up until 1898.

Irish civil registration index should contain all marriages from start of civil registration (1845/1864) until 1958 (1921 for Northern Ireland counties)-

Hi Helen

Have you checked FreeBMD? They did not go to Ireland until December 1876.

Thank you for all your advice.

I have tried FreeBMD on ancestry and on FimdMyPast but have not had any luck. I have now tried the sites that have been suggested in the thread but again to no avail.

The names are William Manley and Lydia Hallbrook Perry.

I don't think william was in the regiment for that long. I have been unable to find a birth record for him so am trying to find anything that may help me find out who his parents were. He was born in Teignmouth about 1844, and lived in Bovey Tracey 1851& 1861. 1881 he was living in Plymouth with Lydia and their daughter Lillie Martha who was born in Plymouth Dec 1879. On Lillie's birth certificate William is described as a Dock Porter.

The 103rd Regiment of Foot were in Plymouth area in 1874 so I believe that he may have joined them then. I have a citiaton for William's son which says that his dad was a bandsman with the 103rd.
