Title: Weaste Cemetry - Spencer
Post by: Manx Hatter on Friday 17 June 11 16:08 BST (UK)
I'm fairly new to this site, so please forgive me if I appear to be asking a rather simplistic question.

My Paternal Great Grandparents are buried in Weaste Cemetry (John SPENCER and Ellen Margaret Spencer (nee Stephen) and I would like to find and photograph their gravestone. I only live in Cheshire, so its not a long trip; but is there any information (listings?) that will make my search easier when I get there - I believe there are over 3,000 gravestones.

Thanks for any help or sign-posting that anyone can give.

Hi,

Try this site for Weaste,  the website explains all about it.

Salford Cemeteries do charge a rather large amount of money to search their records.

You could post if you do find details for a lookup at the Cemetery if anyone is visiting to get a photo for you.

Yes Salford Council charge a lot of money for details.

But try the tip in this thread - it has worked a few times, but you need someone outside the UK to email in.

Thanks for the links and info - I'll give it a whirl

I might just go down and have a wander round - I'm a great believer in fate, and if I'm meant to find their grave, then I will.

I visted a small village in Derbyshire called Brassington once - where the John Spencer in this thread came from - and I wanted to find a gravestone in the local churchyard. There were hundreds, but I parked my car, looked over the wall and at that very spot, there was the gravestone. I was meant to find it.

Good luck to you Dave  ;D

This place is a bit bigger than a local churchyard, 332,000 burials took place here - lots of my rellies are buried there

Ken  ;)

ps

You just cannot beat a good hunt on a nice warm day
