Title: Winifred Spencer - Lancashire
Post by: jcbhydro on Wednesday 15 June 11 16:04 BST (UK)
I am hunting for some details of the parents of Winifred Spencer. born in Lancs. about 1911. Her father could be Robert, John or Richard Spencer.

I don't believe that she was born prior to the 1911 census.

Winifred married John Stitt in 1945 and had 2 daughters.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards,

Jean Kinsella

FreeBMD has about 5 Winifred Spencers born within a year or so of 1911 in Lancashire

I think you will need to find some more information

e.g who does she name as father on hr marriage cert?

Is she the Winifred Stitt who died in Stockport in 1992?

If so - she was born 13.2.1914

This is the only Winifred Spencer birth in Lancs that fits that birthyear

Births March qtr 1914

Winifred Spencer mothers maiden name  Melrose  Salford  8d 313

A possible marriage for her parents from www.lancashirebmd.org.uk

Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1908
SPENCER Robert A MELROSE Agnes Salford Register Office or Registrar Attended Salford SAL/102/162

You really need to buy a copy of the 1945 marriage cert to confirm her age and her fathers name

Per freebmd

 Marriages March qtr 1908

Agnes Melrose       Salford  8d 142
Robert Arthur Spencer     Salford  8d 142

The Spencer/Stitt marriage is also on Lancs BMD and was at St Ann & St Mary Church

If you live in the Manchester area - you can save yourself the cost of the cert by visiting the Records Office and looking it up in the parish records

To narrow your search - freebmd shows it was in the June qtr so was between 1st April and 30th June

CaroleW,

many, many thanks for your prompt and helpful comment re-Winifred Spencer.

I was trawling for her on behalf of a neighbour, Jean Kinsella, and have the details on to her. She will probably make contact with you.

Hello, quite by chance I came across your message. I don't know if Jean is still looking for information about my mother, Winifred. Jean is my second cousin.
I am here if she needs any information and would welcome contact with her.
Kind regards,
Susan

Interesting!
Do you have any information on Fanny Spencer.?
She was 16 years older than Robert. She was married to Francis John Brindley and they had a bakery. He died in the 1918 flu epidemic and after that the business failed. My Dad had to leave school early to get a job.
