Title: Wilhelmina Vondervelden born Nassau Germany 1825
Post by: Marose1953 on Tuesday 14 June 11 21:27 BST (UK)
I am researching my paternal ancestors. My Gt Gt Grandmother was Wilhelmina Vondervelden born abt 1825 Nassau Germany, she married Peter Schmidt born abt 1823 Germany I know they arrived in England around 1855 - 1861 and made a life for themselves in Tonbridge Kent. I have them in 1871 to 1901 Census forms. On some documentation Peter's occupation was Skin Dresser on others General Dealer. Has anyone any information on them or can suggest how I might go about finding where they originated from please

familysearch.org shows baptisms for some of their children in Whitechapel, they seem to have used St George's German Lutheran Church in Whitechapel.

Margaretha, 1855
Maria, 1858
Emma Wilhelmine, 1860
Rudolph, 1862

http://genealogy.kolthammer.org/Kolthammer/p1777.htm - it looks from an example here like these particular parish records have more information on them than a standard CoE baptism and might give you a lead on where in Germany exactly Peter and Wilhelmina came from.  Tower Hamlets Local History Library and Archives seem to hold the records now, or try contacting http://www.agfhs.org.uk/

Thank you so much jorose, I knew there must be other children that I was unaware of. I knew about Rudolph 1862 but there is a huge gap between him and my Gt Grandfather Charles who was born in Nassau Germany in 1846. I will follow up your suggestion and once again thank you so much
