Title: Marriage Cert - Occupation, Residence, Place, Witness - Completed
Post by: HMGG on Saturday 11 June 11 01:55 BST (UK)
So, after some assistance from members here at Rootschat, I found the marriage certificate of my forebears, but I can hardly read it.  So my questions are as follows:

All help gratefully received.

Many thanks.

A agree with everything Suz said...

...and would add that they were married "at the Independent Chapel at Long Sutton in the District of Holbeach"

Thank you everyone.   ;D

How you managed to disover that said "Long Sutton" I'll never know, but I am very grateful.

A little local knowledge goes a long way! And here's a bit more: Sutton St Mary and Long Sutton are the same place. (I know I'm adding this after you've marked it as completed, but I thought it might help.)

Thank you Arthur.  ;D  That is wonderful and helps a lot.

I don't suppose you could tell me if Wiggenhall St Mary The Virgin, East Winch,  and Stowmarket are very far apart?  I am trying to discern which of the two Henry and Letitia Chinery's are Elizabeth, the bride's, parents.

For Wiggenhall St Mary the Virgin and East Winch, the nearest town is King's Lynn (sometimes referred to as just Lynn), which is about 15 miles east of Long Sutton. Wiggenhall St Mary the Virgin is about 4 miles SW of Lynn, and roughly 13 from Long Sutton. East Winch is about 5 miles SE of Lynn, so more like 20 from Long Sutton. Stowmarket is in Suffolk (between Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds) - something like 50-55 miles from Long Sutton, and maybe 40-45 from King's Lynn.

Thank you so much Arthur.    ;D  I think I have the right Henry and Letitia then (as they were in Wiggenhall, not Stowmarket.

Glad to help! I'd have thought Stowmarket would be pretty unlikely, and while Wiggenhall is clearly the nearest, I'd still rate East Winch as near enough to be possible.
