Wondering if anyone could find census/birth records on a Joseph Joy born Suffolk County, New York, circa 1823. Possible father Nelson Joy.
Thanks

1860 Census of Joseph Joy born about 1822 in New York.
Looks like he was a Carpenter.

Alex, the Lookup Requests board doesn't allow images to be posted, so if you can just give the information of what you found, that would be great.

Hello thousandnames,
A very old post on another genealogy site in 2000 which you may or may not have come across - will post just incase you have'nt seen it.

The earlier US Census for the period you may be looking at would only give numerical data on males,, females, living in a particular household. Unfortunately, the name of the father - Nelson Joy does'nt appear to show. Have come across a 1830 Census for Nelson Poy which may have been mistranscribed as Nelson Poy - this is what detail it shows:-
Nelson Poy - [Nelson Joy]
Home in 1830: Ira, Cayuga, New York
Free White Persons - Males - 20 thru 29: 1
Free White Persons - Females - Under 5: 1
Free White Persons - Females - 20 thru 29: 1
Free White Persons - Under 20: 1
Free White Persons - 20 thru 49: 2
Total Free White Persons: 3
Total - All Persons (Free White, Slaves, Free Colored): 3

Joseph left the US in 1841, aboard the Hamilton whaler bound for the Crozet Islands.
I should think he might have been a bit closer to home in 1830, considering that he went to Bridgeport just across Long Island Sound. But then again, I'm only used to researching British migration patterns in my family tree, ie, they didn't go to far!
Any Joys in Connecticut?
Thanks
