Good Morning All,
G grandpa's cousin Louisa Collins married in Cornwall 1899 to Joseph Hebbard.
By the 1901 census Louisa is living with her family and her only child Harold born in 1900.
Joseph is not on the census 1901 or 1911 nor the death index.
I found an entry on the Boer War Casualties
Sgt Joseph Hebbard 21159 Base Company Imperial Yeomanry
I'm wondering if this is her husband.
Is there any way I can check if this man was from Cornwall?

theres a record for him on Find my Past but havent got subs to see what it says.Hopefully someone can confirm yes or no.There is a Boer War memorial in Truro Cathedral naming lads from Cornwall who died in Boer Wars

Thanks -I got his name rank and Imperial Yeomanry from Find my Past but that's all it says.
I noticed Truro has the Boer War Memorial but there is no photo online or a list of names -hope someone had a photo they can look at!
If he is on there then I think that will be Louisas husband.

Your best bet is to apply to the National Archives (or hire a military researcher to do so) to dig out this man's attestation and service papers from series WO 128 which is the Imperial Yeomanry series. Unlike those of regular soldiers, papers of IY men who died on service have survived. This series isn't available online but these papers will confirm place of birth, age on enlistment and other details, usually including name and address of next of kin, that would enable you to confirm whether or not he's your man.
