I have yet to identify these family members. Some specialist restoration will help a lot. Thank you. JohnCH.

Hi, looks like 1890 to me. The hat of the lady reminds me of the 1880s, her jacket sleeves like early 1890s.
Here is my try of the pic.

Thank you very much, Kattie, it's already much easier to see.
If your suggested dates are correct, then that throws 'a cat amongst the pigeons' regarding my theory on who it is. I had imagined it was earlier! Anyhow we shall see. Thank you again for your kind help with restoration.
Best wishes.  JohnCH.

Those are two very remarkable images.  You have both worked absolute miracles, Carolyn and Caroline. Thank you SO much. And the frames make a wonderful complimentary border for the picture. I'm amazed by the clarity of the trees etc. in the background, Caroline. I can't begin to imagine how you can possibly do that!
Having studied them both very closely - how old do you think each of the couple is?
Once again, thank you so much.   JohnCH.

Hi John  :)

You're as usual, very welcome.  To me, I think the boy is possibly mid to late teens and the girl, early twenties, but I hope you get other opinions!

Kind regards
Caroline

Thank you for your view. I'm trying to establish whether they are brother and sister or not. I find their hands are quite confusing because they look much older. Thanks.    JohnCH.

Hi Carol.
Thank you very much for working on this feint old image for me and for the two lovely versions. I very much appreciate the work the restorers, like yourself, do on this website. Many thanks. All good wishes. JohnCH.

There isn't much physical resemblance to me, but I would think it likely that they are brother and sister.  I can't see a ring to suggest engagement photo.   Their hands may be indicative of the kind of work they undertook, as in farm labourer or domestic work, both of which are very hard on the hands, just a thought.
