Hello Wicklow,
Trying to sort out my Sutton/Manning lines from Rathdrum.
Have lots of information, accumulated through many years of research but I'm still stuck.
Can't find a birth or death record for either Richard (born 1827) or his wife Elizabeth nee Manning. They married in Rathdrum 1832. There were at least two other Elizabeths Mannings born around 1825.
Richard's father was a Richard (inn keeper then a farmer)
his mother was Charlotte. I would dearly love to find Charlotte's surname. Elizabeth's father was William (also a farmer).
Below are the three generations I have. I'm hoping someone may be able to see a naming pattern.
Generation one:
Richard and Charlotte.
Children .... John abt 1821
James 1824
Maria 1825
RICHARD 1827
Anne 1828
Sarah 1829
Ellen 1830
John's birthplace unknown, others all Rathdrum
***
Generation two
RICHARD Sutton and Elizabeth Manning
Children .... Richard Joseph 1853
William John 1857 emmigrated to USA
Charlotte Isabella 1861
Sarah Elizabeth 1863 emmigrated to USA
***
Generation three.
Richard Joseph Sutton and widow Jessie Marian Fitzgerald (nee Thornbury)
Jessie had a daughter Catherine (emmigrated to Australia) prior to her marriage to Richard.
Richard and Jessie lived in Charleston Ave, Rathmines.
Children:
Richard William John 1885 emmigrated to Canada
Elizabeth Marian 1887
Anthony Hawkins 1889
Joseph A 1891
Sarah Charlotte 1894
Edward Manning 1895
I believe that these families were linked to the daughter of Samuel R Sutton, Adelaide Maud Sutton (who married Dr James Henry Halpin). They also lived in Charleston Ave. Rathmines.
Glad of any help,

were these families Church of Ireland ?
Dont know if you've already tried these but the CofI Records for the parish of Rathdrum go back to 1706 - they are available in the Representative Church Body Library in Rathfarnham.

Hello Shane, and thanks,
Yes, I think they were all C of I and Methodist. I can't find the records I need on the Irish Church records site.
Yes, I have tried the Representative Church Body Library (although some years ago).
I also have some information from the Wicklow Heritage Project.
I am thinking the earliest Richard must have been born elsewhere.
I'm pretty sure that some of the Cavan Blazers(?)in Canada were from Rathdrum and wonder if, maybe, his family were connected?
I have my tree (on public access) on Ancestry with more detail, if anyone wishes to browse (I think it's easy enough to find). The tree is called Many Leaves.

could be difficult to trace his baptism without knowing a likely parish..
The Irish Genealogy Website doesn't include anything for Wicklow - CofI records for Dublin city, Co. Kerry and and some for Co. Carlow.
If the family had connections with the Rathdrum area then it may be worth trying the adjacent parishes (if records go back far enough) - e.g. Kilcommon, Castlemacadam, Ballykine etc

Hi,
Does your family include a William Sutton born approx 1917 or 1918?
Just trying to fill in some background.
Thanks, Joss

Hi Joss,
Not sure that I can help much but I'll do my best.
Sadly, I don't know very much about the more recent generations of the Sutton families despite having tried to obtain information on them. Some of my line went to Canada and England in the early 1900s. The closest I have to a William born 1919 is one born in Rathdrum in about 1910. I'm assuming this is too early.

Hi again
As Richard and Charlotte named their first son John, might this be a pointer to Richard's father being a John....
If so, could he be the John Sutton listed in 1816 list of Powerscourt Tenants:-

Hi LH,
Thanks for your input. I do have a fair bit of information on the Suttons from Rathdrum and Calgary but nothing much on the recent generations who left Ireland.
I have marriage record (1852) for Richard (born 1827) and his father was another Richard (farmer) with a witness name of John.
I appreciate your help, thank you.
