Title: Eva Lillian Hummel
Post by: bigcous on Friday 03 June 11 10:32 BST (UK)
born Aug 1889, Middlesex, parents David Magnus Hummel and Mary Matilda Warren.  Both parents died when Eva a toddler and left in care of grandparents David Hummel and Alida Hummel.  Eva appears in Swedish census aged 11 1900 in Stockholm living with her grandmother.  I am having trouble finding her after this date in England or Sweden.  Her grandfater died 1890 and grandmother 1908.  Any help locating her after 1900 in a census or marriage would be greatly appreciated.  Kind regards.

I don't know if you have this:

Baptism St James Gunnersbury

20th Aug 1889 Eva Lilian, parents David & Mary Matilda Hummel, of 2 St Mary's grove Chiswick, Timber Merchant.

There's also a letter of administration granted 25 April 1890 to his father, value £2134 15s 10d

I can't find any evidence of her being back in England as a Hummel.

Have you followed her mother's line forward to see if she turns up with them as a Warren?

Or is she with other members of the Hummel family in Sweden. Is she with her grandmothers family, you don't mention her surname.

Thanks very much Dawn

Her grandmothers maiden name was Brattberg, and I had not considered this option but have done some research with this family also and not come across her with them in Sweden, but will have another look.  There is a Eva Lillan Warren buried in Sweden but this person was married to a Warren and born much later, but I found this to be very coincidental.  She could have gone any where, but I am in Sweden in a few weeks so will see what else I can find out.

Hi Svensken

thanks very much for replying

She is my 1st cousin three x removed.  I am doing my tree and her grandfather David Hummel is my third  great grandfather.  I was curious to find out what became of her after her parents died when she was young and she went to live with her grand parents David and Alida in Sweden, but they both died by the time Eva was 10.   I am struggling to find out if she stayed in Sweden or went back to England, and if she stayed with family or was adopted out.  Hoping you can help me.  if you wish to keep this private my email is (*)

Kind regards from down under

Hi bigcous,

Thank you very much for your reply.

Lillian (Eva) was the mother of my grandmother, and she did stay in Sweden. If it is ok for you, it would be great if we could exchange some more information in private. My family members are all very curious to find out if you may have more details about Lillians mother and family. Of course we can provide you with more information about her life in Sweden.

Could you please send your e-mail adress again through tbe personal message system?

Best regards from Sweden

This seems to be an old thread...
I found that Eva Lillian Hummel was married to Carl Rudolf Emil von Mühlenfels and died on the 5th of Jan 1970 in Klippan, Skċne, Sweden.
I have lost the tree on her mothers side though... Mary Matilda Warren who died the same year Eve Lillian was born.  His name should be William Charles Warren but I can't find him anymore on either Ancestry or MyHeritage.  Hie had died before Eva Lillian was born... meaning Before 1889

Sorry bigcous, I can't use the Massage system yet as it seems I have to make at least three posts before I can be with the big boys and play :)

Anyway, No I'm not related to the Hummel or Warren Families...  I'm just on a visit to some old friends in England and one of them got asked of someone in the line below Eva Lillian if they could find some more info on her and her parents.  So I just said I would try to help find some more info for them.
So I atleast found out that she was born on the 21'st of June 1889 @ 2 St. Mary's Grove, Harward Road, Chiswick, Middlesex and got baptised on the 20th of Aug 1889.
Her mother, Mary Matilda, must have been born ABT 1885 @ St Giles Wordmill St, Middlesex and past away on the 7th of December 1889. Cause: Gastro Enteritis
Her dad, David Magnus Hummel, was born (in 1858... don't have the exact date there yet) and he passed away in march 1890 so just shortly after Eva Lillian was born.
They got married on the 23'rd April 1889.
I have the death records of them both and the birth certificate of of Eva Lillian and also the marrige record for David Magnus and Mary Matilda.
Sad part is that when Eva Lillian's dad past away his Brother James Reinhold Hummel was over to take care of the paperwork and he died shortly after this on the 26th of July 1892 at the age of 25.
This family had some serious hard times during these years for sure.

Trying to find out when she actually got moved back to Sweden.  Her grand dad David Hummel is on record 1881 in England but I don't have the exact info when he and Alida moved back to Sweden.  I can only assume that they brought her back as she shows up 1900 in Sweden living with her grandmother. Grand pa past away earlier on the 10th of December 1892. And as he's grave is in Stockholm I suppose they went back in 1889/90 something...  But missing this info so far.
And for all missing the correct tree on Mary Matilda Warren...

Thanks

The Hummels are my part of the family, David and Alida Hummel being my 3x great grandparents.  Their son David Magnus (Evas dad) is buried in Cheswick.  I also have the marriage cert for David and Mary.  Also I have the certs for David and have visited the family grave in Stockholm.  I appreciate the help you have given me.  bigcous

Hi Mats S and bigcous

You may already have this info bigcous.

I thought I would take a look in the Swedish Books to see what I could find:

David Magnus Hummel was born in NederKalix Parish in Norrbotten on 7 July 1858 and was baptized the 21 July 1858.

Here is the family from the 1880 Examination Book in Nederkalix:

Hummel, David - 1820
Brattberg, Alida Maria Kristina - 1828
David Magnus - 1858
Axel Fredrik - 1860
Mary Amanda - 1862
Ivar August - 1864
James Reinhold - 1867
Erik Gustaf - 1868

According to the Moving in Book from Jakob Parish in Stockholm Eva moved to Stockholm on 7 Feb 1893.

Also, by going to this site: http://digitalastadsarkivet.stockholm.se/Rotemannen2012/Search.aspx
and writing Eva Lilian Hummel you will be able to see the original records from the Examination Books. You will probably see 3 hits. Use the link to the left to see the record.

Thanks Ian, for the date of when Eva Lillan showed up in Sweden.

Unfortunately I don't get any hits on when I just fill in Hummel and Eva Lillian or add the birthdate
All I get is either nothing back or an error message, if I add the info where she was born and the year she "Moved in"

Back on hunting the parents of Mary Matilda Warren...

Hmm, I noticed that the site was playing up a bit today. Perhaps it will work some time later.

Hi
Just tried and it worked and also noticed that you might have spelt Lilian wrongly. It is Lilian with one L.

Ian

Actually, don't write Lilian, just Hummel and Eva. You will then get 3 hits.
