And we should say 3 cheers too for NatLib (PapersPast) ... they're doing a fabulous job. :)

We have recently announced our collaborative agreement with Auckland City Libraries, who happen to hold a lot of microfilms of the Auckland Evening Star, the NZ Herald, and other titles.
s the Herald in the process of being digitised, Emerson?
found my grt grandfather and his brother living it up .... ;D
Jericho: The Oamaru Times has come up in discussions in the Papers Past selection meetings, would you like me to request Oamaru Mail on your behalf too?
Finally found the death notice of my ggrandfather in the Auckland Star along with my ancestors athletics results at school. 8)
More Auckland Star yes please, wonder what else I can unearth :D
Thanks for all the work you are doing PapersPast.
Cheers

Thankyou 8) knew I would find some info in the Auckland Star, have spent a few hours there already and let another grateful friend know last week as well. Noticed the NZ Herald ran an item over Queen's Birthday weekend, picking out the topic of the wet weather over same weekend in past :D .... also this morning, just in the last 1/4 hr, Breakfast TV1 mentioned it in the local reporter roundup. Traffic may be a bit heavier on the site as a result :) mare
May I request the Nelson Evening Mail (beyond 1909) and Marlborough Express (beyond 1920) please.
Thanks

Wonderful :-* Thank you Papers Past.
Hi Papers Past,
Any chance of the Franklin Times appearing on line?
Cheers
KHP
Please add me to those wanting more of the Nelson Evening Mail.
Thanks
John B
... the Northland Papers? ie Wairoa Bell, or North Auckland Times? I know that the Dargaville museum hold hard copies of the latter.
percy porter: Would you like me to note those two titles as "requested" for our next papers past selection meeting?

Please add my vote for Northland papers, especially The Wairoa Bell, 'cos my gr-grandfather owned it! ;)

I for one have wasted loads of time saving images then cropping to get the bit I want in a long column
eg I'm searching miners names..and you get sometime hundreds options
Althea
only recenty I discovered the little circle that shows when you drag across an image, and that if you click copy you often only get the bit you selected..
I couldn't find the little circle either :'(... ditto, still having a tiki tour :D
Can you share more details? I've yet to find the 'little circle'.
Yes, the search facility leaves a little to be desired. What about implementing 'Boolean searching' with +, - and NOT terms. The - are particularly important.
In addition to this 'Field searching' may help in the instance that Althea is talking about. Many of the libraries use this in their SPYDUS catalogue system.
ie Choose one search term, get the results, refine them using another search term etc.
'Truncation searching' or 'wild card searching' (not just at beginning or ends but in between as well) would also be a bonus, especially when papers made mistakes with spellings of peoples names, addresses etc.
It's great to have the PapersPast resource but to have to then still search through hundreds of pages of results (no exaggeration) which is the way it is at present, is mind-numbingly boring.
Oh and while we are on the topic of improvements, PapersPast indicated to me last year that you were bringing in an user editing facility similar to the National Library of Australia system, this year. Any ETA on that?
Thanks for hearing me out. I do appreciate having this thread to communicate requests and ideas directly to Paperspast - it's a breath of fresh air (especially compared to the bureaucracy of other government departments).
And there is an Australian version with papers from 1803 to 1954.

:D :D
Last year we launched the online version of the A to J's (Appendices to the Journals of the House of Representatives), with an intial 34-odd volumes from 1862-1879. It uses the same platform as Papers Past, so it's pretty straightforward to use, however there wasn't really enough content to be a significant genealogical resource at the time. ...

It was uncer Misc.: H-02 POLICE FORCE OF NEW ZEALAND (REPORT AND EVIDENCE OF THE ROYAL COMMISSION ON THE). Appendix to the Journals of the House of Representatives, 1898 Session I
Lastly, we've figured out the problem with that volume in the A to J's that aghadowey came across, and we've got a fix planned. Thanks for spotting it aghadowey!
Technically I think PP will say the Police Gazettes 'belong' to Archives but seeing as Natlib and Archives are right cuddly at present there may be some nepotism that works in our favour!
And could I ask that the list of 'Nominated' papers be published here? I don't know about anyone else but I have completely lost track of what might be coming next. ;)
Spades
...it fits the definition of "newspaper"...
Many thanks for working on it- I look forward to reading the information when it's fixed :)
Many thanks for your efforts. Will have a look tomorrow as it's 1 am here in Ireland and I've to get up at 4 am!
Thank you so much for the update PP :)
Great photo Don :D

That's great news as I have found a huge amount of useful information from this site.
We are pleased to see your involvement with the Family History Fair here ion Hamilton.
We will be there - my wife will be catching up with her dancing partner from almolst 60 years ago when both Jon Trimmer and Carol were taught by Jon's older sister. They took part in various competitions. Attached is a photo of them together during one of the events ...

Hi Newbie - I'm hanging out for some notices from the Press - wish they would 'farm out' the archives.... guess they are busy ;)
Hi there,
Just wondering if there is any chance of the Lyttelton Times been extended from 1862. I know we have it at Christchurch library but not able to access it at this time. I am looking for years 1864, 1866, 1872, and 1874
Cheers

Cool, thanks Newbie.
Update on name though - found a couple of women (and one man) with my first name :o
too bad it's first AND last cause one of them was up for public drunkeness and it wasn't the bloke. Dad reckons the bloke was probably a typo ;)
Still, thanks to the competition I found a lovely article about a fundraiser for the Wounded Soldiers Fun in 1916 which my Great Grandmother and her furture husband attended.
Buzzing about that find!(http://disquietingmuses.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Buzzy-bee-toy.jpg)
