Hi - I just did your lookup. No Amy Ironside listed as being buried there.
The funeral notice in the newspaper certainly indicates that she was taken to the Presbyterian Cemetary, Rookwood but she isnt in the Rookwood Cemetery Transcriptions CD. Sorry :(
...no Samuel Ironside listed either.
-
RozG,
We may be able to help further if you could tell us the names of the parents in the marriage.
That is---- SAMUEL and AMY.

Only graves with MI's will be on the resource.
No burial record for either Amy or Samuel in the Presbyterian Section of Rookwood.

Roz I don't think it is weird that your grandmother was buried at Rookwood. Her death was registered in the District of Campsie although her electoral roll listing was Bankstown, and it may have been an expensive exercise to bury her at Batlow or Tumut with her husband.
I have given you a link where you can seek help with Samuel's actual place of burial.
I suggest you contact the Independent Section of Rookwood cemetery that maintains the records for the Methodist and Presbyterian [including the Presbyterian burials at Field of Mars]
http://www.rookwoodindependent.com.au/
and read or show them of the Funeral Notice from the Sydney Morning Herald dated 8th October, 1954

Hi
I have found a similar situation where I had a death / funeral notice yet could not find information on a cemetery website, I found that the problem was transcribing the original "crook" handwriting.
I did a search on the Independant website using just AMY and found this
Presbyterian 5G 0000482
ARENSIELL AMY 06 Oct 1954
I had a look on Trove and the NSW BDM for Amy ARENSIELL and found nothing.
I am wondering if this could be your Amy, with a bit of imagination you could mistake IRONSIDE for ARENSIELL
Regards
Cass

Spot on Cass :) I agree with you. The date given is obviously the date of death not date of service as funeral notice was dated 8 Oct.

You know you could be right, this does look like her, so the best thing I could do is go to Rookwood and try to find her grave and see what is written on it??

And her parents' marriage
Marriages Sep 1869
SMITH Samuel Bradfield 2c/614
COVENTY Emma Bradfield 2c/614
Roz it would be doubtful that the transcribers of the memorial inscriptions from the Society of Australian Genealogists at Rookwood would make an error transcribing from a headstone, unless of course, the inscription was illegible. Amy's grave does not have a headstone.
I would mention that the date of burial on the website for Amy would be her date of death as she was buried on 8th Oct 1954 according to the Sydney Morning Herald funeral notice.

I asked my mum about the headstone, but as her memory isnt very good anymore she said she couldnt remember if they had the money to put on one, if that is the case how do they know who is buried there plus how would I find out ???
Thanks for your help

You have been given the details of the burial including location. There is no headstone according the the transcriptions of headstones at Rookwood Cemetery.
how do they know who is buried theer
Roz
All cemeteries maintain a burial register. This is required by law.
You can search here for her burial, however you must search just using AMY as a given name and no surname, and scroll down to Amy buried [according to the index] 6 Oct 1954.
http://www.rookwoodindependent.com.au/index.php?option=com_wrapper&view=wrapper&Itemid=11
Click on map....and wait and wait ;) Eventually the details will appear on the right of the page that Amy was 84 years of age.
Perhaps Amy needed her birth certificate in 1931 to apply for the aged pension.

Thank You :)

I have looked up the Rookwood site and put in just Amy and all that came up with the closet date was ...
ARENSIELL AMY 06 Oct 1954
So I looked again with her full name Amy Ironside and nothing, now I am really lost :-(
So does this mean that Amy Arensiell could be my Amy????
-
Roz the information about Amy ARENSIELL was posted by Cass and I agree with her. May I suggest that you go back and read all the information on the thread very carefully.
Of course you can contact the cemetery as I suggested on one of my posts....link to website with contact details also posted previously.
Good luck.
