Title: George Archbald b1873 Scotland
Post by: andyandjan on Tuesday 24 May 11 21:55 BST (UK)
George Archbald was born in Kelso, Scotland on 14 March 1873.  By 14 April 1886 he is one of 117 'home children' arriving in Halifax aboard the Beunos Ayrean.  Though I think I have found him in Ontario in the 1891 census, I would love to find out what happened to him in Canada.  He was my great grandmother's youngest brother.

Can you tell us who his parents were?

You can access the 1901 and 1911 Canada censuses for free at this link ... click on 'split view' at the top to see the original image which will provide more info than the transcript does.

According to the LDS site, his parents were William Archbald and Elizabeth Tranent.

From the Ontario marriages database:

George Archibald, 39, son of William Archibald and Elizabeth Trennant married Ellenor Stevenson, 35, daughter of Alexander Stevenson and Mary Jane Richards on 2 Sep 1914 in Bastard Twp, Leeds County, Ontario. The registration indicates that George was a bachelor and Ellenor was a spinster.

I don't see a death for either George or Ellenor but the Ontario deaths database only goes to 1936.

I found an entry for George, Ellenor and a son named Clarence at Find A Grave. Here's a link to George's entry:

Perhaps they can find obituaries or other notices in a local newspaper.

I'm having problems getting the Automated Genealogy site to work but at Ancestry I found George Archibald in Bastard and Burgess, Leeds County on the 1901 census. He was living alone. On the census it indicates he was 29, his birth date was 14 Mar 1872 (not unusual for it to be off a year) in Scotland, his immigration year was 1896 (although it could be a really badly written 8, not a 9) and he was a labourer.

He was in Crosby South Township, Elgin Village, Leeds County in 1911. Still living alone, he was listed as 39, born Mar 1872 in Scotland, immigration year 1886 and he was a labourer.
