Title: George Henry Banks & Sarah Alice Banks
Post by: Johnbach on Monday 23 May 11 20:24 BST (UK)
I would be most grateful if anyone could help me with my search.

My maternal great great grandfather George Henry Banks b.1849 in Birkenhead was married to Sarah Alice also b. in 1849 in Newry, County Down.

Their children were Sarah, Godfrey Charles, Ellen Elizabeth, Mary Alice and George Henry.

I have hit a stumbling point with Sarah Alice as I cannot find her on any census before 1881. Would this have something to do with her location being in Northern Ireland?

Any help or suggestions would be much aprreciated.

Kind regards

JB

Thank you so much for your speedy reply.

I have the same information about Godfrey Charles who in fact was my g. grandfather and have them living at 99 Gt. Howard Street, Liverpool.

Unfortunately i do not have any idea or information as to when or where they were married (George & Sarah).

The only hunch i have is that they may have married in the Anfield area of the city.

Thank you once again for your kind help.

JB

So we are looking for a marriage prior to their first child Sarah aged 1  being born, as they are in Howard Street with her in 1871 census, give or take a few months either side,

Sarah Prudence is baptised ST Mathias Church Liverpool ,June 27 th .

you have probably got this information, but by posting it may help any one else looking for the marriage of George and Sarah

Thank you Radcliff,

No I didn't have that information, so a big thank you indeed.

Would you know if St. Mathias is an Anglican or Catholic Church? This may have some prevalence to my other post today re. Edward Rothwell

Kind regards

A possible marriage in 1868 of a George Banks to Sarah McKnight.  Liverpool Sept. Qtr volume 8b page 448.  Ancestry has managed to put Sarah down as page 418  ::)  instead of 448.  The other couple on the page were a Christian Madsen and Ann Thomson.  Looking at the 1871 census Christian was married to Ann so George must have married Sarah McKnight.

Do you have Godfreys birth certificate to confirm his mothers maiden name?

Thank you Mosiefish!

I don't have Godfrey's marriage certificate unfortunatley, however, i will follow the Sarah McKnight lead as it seems very feasible.

Thank You JB

Hi JB,

You really must send for Godfreys BIRTH certificate to determine his mothers maiden name.  It is the only way to be certain you have Sarah`s maiden name.  For all we know she could have married at 17, been a widow at 19 and then married George.  On the 1871 census Sarah was 24 and George 23.  So they are not exactly accurate about their ages from census to census.

Mo
