Title: Saskatchewan 1916 census
Post by: ucdom on Monday 23 May 11 13:56 BST (UK)
Hi
I'm trying to locate a chap called John Welburn (b. 1869 in England), his wife Alice (1873, England) and son Clarence (1898, England).

I've established that they entered Quebec on 1 May 1909, after crossing on the SS Corsican, and that they subsequently settled in Moose Jaw (1911 census).
I also know that John died in 1964, and Clarence in 1985, near Vancouver. I have no idea of what happened to Alice, but I do know that Clarence married a woman from North Dakota (Hannah Marie Lindman, 1904-1983) - although I have no info about any children.

A first step to tracing their lives would be to locate them in the 1916 census of Saskatechewan.
If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Andrew

Hi there.

Found these entries ... no full first name, unfortunately.

J Welburn, Head, 46, b. England, Anglican (w/b = C of E), immigration year n g (I assume = not given?). Farmer, status looks like 'M' for married but no sign of Alice (however, see below).

C Welburn, Son, 17, b. England, Anglican, immigration year n g, Farmer's son.

Saskatchewan, Kindersley District, Township 25, Range 08, Meridian 03, Municipality Coteau

There is a death for an Alice Welburn 19 Oct 1911 in the Sask Index here ...

Hello Andrew,

An Obituary on the link below for Dorothy Alice Crha 1931-2011. She was born April 3, 1931 in Regina, Canada to Clarence and Hannah Marie (Lindman) Welburn. She was preceded in death by a brother Everett, a sister, Loraine, and a great grandchild Amaya Lawless.

If you use something like Whitepages USA you will find some living children of Dorothy - in Idaho and Oregon

Hi PolarBear and Sandra

Thankyou!!!!  Amazing stuff - though sad that John lost his wife so soon after arriving in Canada (I had wondered if the flu outbreak of 1918 had played a part, but I guess not).

And that obituary is PACKED with information - that's going to keep me busy for a while.

It's great to know, having lost John, Alice and Clarence in the English records, and wondering whatever became of them, that they travelled and made these great lives in Canada and the US, with great grandchildren and more...

Thanks again

Andrew

Hi there.

There ia an immigration to the USA in 1946 for a Dorothy Alice Radonski nee Welburn. Husband Archie Stanley Radonski of Van Zandt, Washington. Name of relative in the country coming from is given as Father Clarence Welburn of Mission City BC. DOB given here is 11 Apr 1928 in Saskatchewan. (from Anc****y)

If you go to ... https://www.familysearch.org/ ...you will find additional info re: the death registrations of Clarence and John plus I believe the death of a daughter of Clarence. Scroll down and click on USA, Canada, and Mexico then scroll down to British Columbia Death Registrations.

Neala, once you make 3 posts, you can use the PM (personal message) system to contact each other and share personal information such as email addresses. You can access the PM by using the little green scroll under the user name of the person you want to contact. Once you make 3 posts, even to say hi, try the system. If you have any trouble, post that here and someone will work you through it.

By the way, I just noticed that you are both new to Rootschat. Welcome and good searching.
