Title: Davies Morgan
Post by: Britt on Monday 23 May 11 12:04 BST (UK)
Darren Davies,

I'm hoping you check in and receive this message.
My friend has an albumn purchased from St Vincent de Paul, containg photos of a Davies family from Christchurch.

If you can prove that you are from this family, we are happy to pass it on to you.

No, these photos are in a family photo albumn that was purchased here in Australia.
The reason it was, is we can't bear to see albumn's ending up this way, and if we can, we will get them back to the families they really belong to.
A request was posted on the roots chat site by a Darren Davies, who still lived in Christchurch, when he was posting messages of request for Morgan Davis/Davies.

Cheers,

Britt

Hi Britt,

Sorry for the long time no visits......well I'm back online now and back in shaky Christchurch.
Very interested to view the albums if you still have them.

Once again, apologies for the long time between logins...

Hi Darren is your Morgan Davies the son of Henry Edward Davies,of Irwell New Zealand?

Hi Britt,

The Morgan Davis of Irwell seems to have only been 5 years old in 1864 when he arrived so it cannot be the same Morgan unfortunately.... My Morgan married in 1868.

Hi Darren

Thanks for the message. Have you made contact in your searches for your particular line, with the line of Henry William Davies & wife Hannah, parents of Morgan, Simon, Sarah, Mary Ann and 1 other.

William worked on a property named "ellesmere", and daughter Mary Ann married James Tallentire, if this helps.

If you do come across someone after this particular family, please get in touch with us.  We will keep the album until we can find the correct family.

Now that it is 2025 there is much more information available online, including official records, which aids us in gathering details for families.    I'm adding some here for clarification of Britt's message and hope it may be of assistance ??   :)

Comments for items marked in "blue" :  >

*   The name of this man appears to be Henry Edward DAVIES (rather than "Henry William")
His wife Hannah DAVIES died 16 July 1900 aged 69 /  Henry Edward DAVIES of Irwell died on 15 August 1918 aged 80.
They are buried together at Springston Cemetery, Canterbury North.   Their headstone also mentions their son Simon who died aged 16 years, on 3 February 1876.

In an adjacent plot at same cemetery, there is a headstone for Morgan John DAVIES, 1858-1938 and his wife Sarah Alice DAVIES, 1867-1941.

*   Henry Edward DAVIES, (not "William") a farmer, owned land (freehold) at Irwell.   At one time, possibly due to a boundary change, he is listed in the Ellesmere Electorate, though still residing in Irwell.   Prior to this, the electoral district he was registered in was known as Selwyn.

...  specific bequests made to his son - Morgan John DAVIES,  and daughter, Mary Ann TALLENTIRE.  His other children also named.
Confirmation (affidavit of Morgan John DAVIES) that his sister married James Everest (or Everist) TALLENTIRE (also explanation and correction, as to why her husband was erroneously described in Will as "Thomas" rather than "James").

1874 / 37186 - DAVIES* - Mary Ann - Parents:  Emma North and Morgan
