Title: Meade - Michael Meade Liverpool
Post by: rachel22 on Monday 23 May 11 10:24 BST (UK)
Hi
I am trying to trace an ancestor and his family.  His name is Michael Meade and he was born in Ireland c 1796, family knowledge says County Mayo.  He married an Ann Upton and they had a son in Preston Lancs c 1928.  I found out from his death certificate that he  was a Chelsea Pensioner, and have tracked down a Chelsea Pensioner record on Findmypast that fits his details.

The only thing is that this one was from village of Whitechurch, Waterford and signed up in Cork, not from Mayo, but its the only one where all other details, eg age date of discharge etc fit.  This explains why he left Ireland when he did, he signed up to the British Army in 1819.  I have him newly discharged with wife in 1841 census and by 1851 they were living in Prescot, near Liverpool, with Ann Uptons father.

Does anyone know if it is possible to find out more about his Irish background?  I know its a long shot as it is so early, but I would love to find out where he actually came from.

I would also like to find a marriage record for Michael and Ann, its too early for civil registration and IGI does not have any Huyton or Preston records to look in.  Also some kind of baptism record for their son John.  Michael was catholic, although Ann seems to be from English protestant background, I guess that the marriage was catholic and so was sons baptism.  Mum remembers it being told that her grandmother married a catholic by the surname of Meade (John). (But thats another long tale in itself!!)

Any help really appreciated as after the miraculous breakthrough of the CP records I am really stuck!  :(

The townland of Whitechurch (in the civil parish also named Whitechurch) is between Dungarvan and Cappoquin and it seems that the RC parish would be Aglish.

for details on records for the parish see : RC Parish of Aglish (http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Waterford&parish=Aglish&churchid=1088)  (Irish Times)
