Title: Robert Grimsey, Publican, London prior to 1837
Post by: cosmos on Saturday 21 May 11 19:52 BST (UK)
Can anyone help with finding Robert Grimsey. In 1837 he was listed as a publican in London when his son, James, married Catherine Pritchard. Does a list of publicans exist. Thanks.

James bapt St.John the Evangalist Westminster 21/4/1816 parents Robert & Mary Barton Street Publican

James remarried as a widower in St.Mary's Marylebone 13/7/1863 to Joyce Dicks (wid) nee Bunce Robert still given as alive!

Joyce is already showing as his wife in 1861 census!

 - the Sun Fire Office insurances records can be helpful.
In 1808 Robert Grimsey, victualler, was insured at the Salutation, Barton St (In 1806 a Robert Rogers was insured at the same address)
In 1823 Robert Grimsey, "gentleman", was insured at a different address - perhaps retired by then? - or a different man?

Just because Robert wasn't listed as deceased in 1863 doesn't mean he was alive.
I can't see him in 1841 and http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/ does show a possible will in 1825.
