Title: Ruth Dennis Appleton
Post by: davemullen on Friday 20 May 11 16:01 BST (UK)
Hi All.
This is a massive plea on behalf of my wife. She is researching her maternal family and has had a fair amount of success, that is until trying to locate her maternal G Grandma, who according to her marriage certificate was born in Hartlepolol county Durham in 1875 ( my wife thinks she was parachuted in ) because apart form the marriage certificate and an entry on the 1901 census she does not exist.  We do know that she had a sister and that this sister had a child( names unknown )  We know that in 1895 she was given as living in Wilsden in Yorkshire ( Banns ) she married in Wilsden and lived the rest of her life there.  Any help or ideas would be gratefully received.

Hi and welcome to rootschat
Can you clarify whether the name you give is her maiden name or married name?   Father's name and witnesses from the marriage certificate would help a lot.

No name or occupation?    I did wonder because of the double surname if she might be illegitimate - that might explain being unable to find the birth.

Hi all  :)

Am I right thinking there's a Jane Kelly living in the household in 1911? would she be a mother in law?

Previous censuses show a Ruth Kelly born Hartlepool at the right time, and it looks as though her middle name was Dennis.

FreeBMD shows:
Ruth U_ani[sa] Kelly
Jun 1876 Hartlepool 10a 139

but the middle name is Dennis on the actual index.

Interesting leap of faith Tati!
RG11 4906 66 24 is the 1881 for Ruth Kelly.  Parents John and Jane.

Who were the marriage witnesses, Dave, and as Andrea asked does the marriage cert give Ruth's father's name at least?
