Frederick George Foot born 2/3/1888 Upcerne? Dorset joined 3rd Dorset Reg when 18 years 6 m's and died in India 13/12/1906. Any help re finding out where he died and any military information regarding him would be fantastic. Mark

Hi Mark,

Are your dates correct? If as you say, he was born February 1888, and joined at 18 years six months, that would have been September 1906, only three months before his death in  December 1906. That gives little time for him to build up a military record.

There is no death showing in the Army or overseas death records.

Hi

I have recently come across a Frederick George Foot from Cerne Abbas whilst looking for a Frederick C Foot's military records.

According to his military records, Frederick G Foot joined the Dorsetshire Reg on 30/09/03 aged 18yrs 6 mths,  Reg no 6945 , and he died in The Royal Victoria hosptial from dysentry at 8.15pm 13 Dec 1906, aged 23. He was in India between 28/02/05 to 8/12/06. His father lived in Upcerne Wood and he had a younger brother (Frank).

I hope this is the chap you are looking for. If you have come across Frederick C Foot (1912-1989) from Dorset in your research I would be glad of any information as I have hit a brick wall!

Regards
Emma

Emma, very many thanks. It is certainly the relations I am looking for.  We were lead to believe he died in India, but it appears he made it back. I guess the Royal Victoria is in London but I'll have to do some further finding.

As for your your Frederick, I do not have him with my records at present. If you can give some more details it may help. Was he from Dorset?

Very many thanks again,  Mark

The dates in Emma's posting do not add up. I don't think it was possible to travel from India to the UK in 5 days in 1906. Could be worth trying the British Library where they have extensive records of the British in India.

A Frederick Charles Foot (born 23 Feb 1912) died in 1980. Is that the one you are after? If so, what do you know already?

(There is a Victoria hospital (founded 1901) in Bangalore, but I don't think it has the Royal in front of it.)

Frederick G Foot's service records are available to view on Ancestry and give much more detail of the particulars of his illness. Its well worth a look!

My Frederick Charles Foot was born in Wimborne Dorset on 23 Feb 1912 (looks like you have the right one Richard!). His mothers maiden name is D'Silva but I cannot find any marraige details to source the father. Frederick married Gladys Hapgood in Sep 1931.

How on earth did you find the date he died?

They are on ancestry.

The reference is
Mar 1980
Portsmouth 20 0652

What did Frederick give as his father's name on the marriage certificate?

There is a Frederick Charles Foot born in Wimborne in Sep 1890 (5a 253). The co-incidence of names and places seems to suggest a connection.

In 1901 this Frederick was living with his family in Bournemouth (RG13/1042).

In Jun 1910 a Frederick Charles Foote married in Christchurch either Mary Elizabeth Warren or Daisy Ellen A Bell. Neither, of course, is called D'Silva, which may mean that...

..in 1901 Frederick is calling himself: Charles Foote, 21, living with Alfred, 58; Alice, 45 ,and Harry, 17 (ie the right family) in Bournemouth/Christchurch.

A Frederick Foot married in Jun 1911 in Southampton and one of the possible wives is missing, but I can't find a D'Silva with a similar reference.

Richard

(Sorry; we now have two threads running together)

DorsetGal,

You need to obtain your Frederick Charles birth certificate, that will give you his father's name. His father's name should also be on his marriage certificate to Gladys HABGOOD.

If Frederick died in Southampton on 13th December 1906 in Southampton, then it has to be a different Frederick who left India on 8th December, or one of the dates is wrongly recorded. I suggest a trip to the British Library to look at the British servicemen's records in India might be helpful.
