Title: Banks - Brewers of Wolverhampton
Post by: stevefoote on Monday 16 May 11 18:28 BST (UK)
I am researching the family of Thomas Banks (1808-1889) who started Banks & Co Brewery in Wolverhampton.

I have tracked them through the census etc - but wondered if anyone knew if there had been a history of the brewey published anywhere - or whether there was anyone out there who knew anything about this family and was willing to compare notes.

There is a brief chronology on their web site - but I have tried contacting their web site for more details and got no response.

Hi Footie,

I could not find any detailed information on the family other than the site you mentioned, however there is a nice early drawing of the brewery on this link.

Hi, I tried to get in touch with Bank's Brewery regarding a relation of mine who ran a pub in Walsall, I had to go via the Marstons website as Marstons now own Bank's. They did get back to me with the information I ask for but it did take quite a few days to get the reply.

There is a Brewery History Society which might be able to help.  Try googling.

William Banks had a sister called Emma and A brother called Victor and a sister called Jessie who married a Miller, they had 3 daughters. Francis, ?, and Doris, . Francis worked in Chad Valley toy factory.
His father (grandad Banks) had a sister Edith who lived in Vauxhall Street Dudley.I think grandad Banks (or possibly his father) was a younger son and therfore did not inherit the brewery

Hi

I am not related to the Banks. However I have almost grow up in Lichfield bewery branch. I thought Mr Thompson was the owner or maybe one of the Managers of the bewery company. Mr Thompson visited the Lichfield branch approxmiately 1960-1990. At the moment the Lichfield branch, has some windows are smashed but the rest is in tact.

If you would like anymore information let me know.
