Post by: andacala on Monday 16 May 11 12:24 BST (UK)
Hello Listers,

Does anybody know what happened to Catherine Vaughan? Cath was born in Killashandra, County Cavan in c. 1802. Cath married George Bell (b. 1801, Rathkeale) in c 1820. Three of their daughters emigrated to Australia in 1840.

George married Frances Gallagher in Shanty Bay, Ontario, Canada in 1847.

Civil registration of deaths started in 1864 (which looks too late for Catherine's death if husband George remarried 1847 in Ontario).

You haven't mentioned what religion the family would have been in Ireland. If Presbyterian there's unlikely to be a church burial record. Church of Ireland burial registers generally list date of burial, name and age.

I think it would be worthwhile contacting Cavan Genealogy Centre.
They have quite an amount of Church Records + Tithe Applotment Books,1823 approx,Griffiths Valuation,1857,Hearth Rolls + Flax Growers lists.
For parts of Cavan I know they have remnants of 1821 census.too.
