Title: Opinions and dates on two sisters
Post by: Emine on Friday 13 May 11 01:44 BST (UK)
Hello, I have two photographs, both of which show two sisters together. By their faces I think they're the same people. But I would like some help discovering exactly who they are. My questions are:

1. What are the rough dates of the two photographs?
2. What age difference do you think is between the girls/women?
3. Would you agree that the same people are in both photographs?

Both photographs appear to be copies of originals, so the paper doesn't add much to dating, sadly.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Emine
I'd say the younger girls look to be 7 - 9 years
and the older ones late teens, say 16 - 18.

Hard to say if they are the same girls.  They look a deal chubbier in the later photo.

Second one about 1914 or so. First one...not too much to date, as children's clothing didn't change much...seeing the original would be the best clue :-\

Yes, maybe even a little later...the hairstyle, called a loose pompadour, came out around 1912 or so...the high-waisted skirt about 1912-1914, and especially the v-necked blouse was never seen until 1913-1914.

What were you hoping for?

At least a decade earlier, if not more.  I was passed a box full of photographs, and these were two of the handful I thought could be my family. Sadly the date means there's no chance of it being whom I thought it was. The saving grace is that there are another two sisters (who look totally different) who are now back in contention. Such a headache.

Looking closely at the cranial features and the eye-postitioning, I would say that they are most definitely the same women.  JohnCH.
