Hi,
This signature is of a witness on a marriage certificate of one of my ancestors, however I cannot decipher their first name. I think the surname is Trapp, but cannot read the first name.
Any help would be much appreciated,

I agree, Emilie Trapp :)

I'll make it three, Emilie Trapp.
Pels.

Thank you, that was my guess, but I searched ancestry for that and there was no-one of that name. :-\
I am guessing they were originally Emily, and decided to change the spelling of their name!
Many Thanks,

Remember there was no standardised spelling of any word before the mid 1700s at the earliest. What period is the signature from?
-
It is on a 1915 Marriage Certificate

Don't worry too much about the spelling. People were often inconsistent. She might even be an Emeline on her birth certificate!
Graham.

Since Emily and variants was a popular Christian name at that period, I think we can assume it is one of those. To return to my original point, it is not 18th century then.
