Hi,
I am wondering if anyone can help me.
When I look for my English ancestors BMD's etc it only gives me their details and other information such as Volume, page number etc but doesnt show me their parents names.
I have done alot of search for scottish ancestors and their BMD's are straight forward and gives parents names etc.
any help/ information in finding parents names for english ancestors would be much appreciated
Sarah :)

whereabouts in england were your ancestors married
if it was in london we might be able to find the parents names
only quiet a lot of london marriages have been put online and they would tell you the fathers name and occ.
as have some of the england and wales marriages
failing that you could go back through the censuses looking for them
otherwise you would have to get the birth certs of the people you are looking for that would tell you the mothers maiden name and fathers name
maybe if you was to furnish us with some names and approx birthdates and birthplaces we might be able to help you

Hi Mick,
Thank you for your reply.
I am looking for the parents names of Charles Feeley.
The only information I have about him Is that he married a Sarah Kinsella in 1927 Salford Manchester. I also believe he was born ther & died ther too.
I was hoping maybe a Birth/Death cert would give me his parents names.
Thanks
Sarah

Hello
When searching Scottish rellies they do give more info without buying a cert. But I am afraid the English ones you need to buy a cert to show parentage. Otherwise trawl the census and hopefully find the correct person. This can be dodgy - As in my line Thomas Clarke is a name that came up many times in one area all of a very similar age.. So its a case of sending of for Birth certs I am afraid...
Its all good fun ;)

You will have to use the volume and page number to buy the certificate from the GRO -unfortunately the Scottish system isn't replicated in England - you have to buy a paper copy.

E & W BMDs are organised as an Index - online from FreeBMD and others.
To get the info you need, you have to obtain a Birth / Marriage / Death Certificate based on the Index content - Name(s), District, Volume & Page Number as well as the Year and the Quarter in which Regitration took place.

If you're not familiar with English birth, marriage and death certs( which don't tell you the parents names) look at this website.

Hi
If you use the 1911 census, there are only 2 Charles Feeley's in the free index.
Using our hints & tips here, you can work out who belongs to who

I'm sorry I can't help out more, but 1911 census look-ups aren't allowed here due to the terms & conditions of the 1911/FindMyPast sites.
If you bought the 1927 marriage cert, you would find out who his father was.

His marriage appears on www.freebmd.org.uk and there is a possible birth for Charles too in 1904. That being the case the 1911 census might be useful. We can't do look ups for that one but the index is free to search and there are lots of suggestions on this thread:

However. to be sure you have the right chap you really need the marriage certificate to confirm the name of his father. You can use the GRO link from Freebmd to order it.

Another useful site is the Government one Order birth, marriage and death certificates http://www.rootschat.com/links/07tr/ which has help sheets for Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates, which show what is on each type of certificate.
