Thanks Bee for the info.
I've contacted them before, and I've been up to the grave previously,
but it was awhile back and for the life of me I can't remember where the plot is.
I may just have to pester them again, and this time draw myself a map ::)
Thanks again

Hi Claire
390 is fairly easy to describe looking at my map - I don't want to give it up but I will help you.
It is in the newer part of the Cemetery.
So when you go in , just drive straight down in the direction of the prison walls , look to the right and at the far side is a fence (you'll know what I mean)
On that stretch running along the fence are 10 compartments , the 4th from the lfet as you face it is 390 - simple as that.
Say Hello to my grandparents , they are near as damn it in the same area.
Good luck
Dan

It sounds pretty easy to find.. so I'll go and have a look tomorrow.
Thank you very much for the help.

Hello mrs_tease.
I too would like a copy of the plan of the plots.
Particularly looking for Grave-space 14, Compartment 428
vis.
George Holmes
Birth 12 July 1895 24 24 -- Cadishead, Lancashire, England
Death 1 February 1979 (Age 83) -- 135 Telford St, Hull, Yorkshire, England
Some confusion in the family as to whether
he was buried here (Hedon Road Cemetry) for which he bought a plot for in 1940
(I have a copy of the certificate)
or
In St Giles Cemetry Marfleet.
Thanks
Brian

Hi
428 is the 2nd compartment in from the edge and the 3rd (of 6 ) along the side.
You should be able to go straight there.
Dan

I had a quick look earlier - it does not look like there is a stone at Hedon Road but you can nevr be certain when just looking.
I think the image I am sending shows the approximate location - you will see there is quite a bit of space - some of which will be unmarked graves.
Best wishes
Dan

hello, can you help me please? I am looking for compartment 83, grave 78, name Strachan, and wondering where to start in Hedon Road cemetary? thank you.
-
Compartment 83 should be quite easy to locate.
Go in the main gates , keep the lodge on the right and go straight down the main route
When you come to where the paths cross over the route - you will have compartment 84.our left
Looking back to Hedon road , you should be able to dived the space from the furthest edge of the cemetery into 8, each one is the width of a compartment.
Walk into compartment 84 – ( in the directions of the city centre) the equal distance of what you assess to be one compartment.
You should arrive in 83,
If your ancestors has a stone that remains you should find it. If not you need the help of the council.
You can get a map from the History centre. I have marked it on the image attached
You’ll need to guestimate a grid in the compartment area normally about 10 by 10 ( 100 graves might be more/less)
Good luck

Hello
Please can you tell me whether I have to visit the Bereavement services in Hull to get the plot number for my great-granfather or will they tell me in a letter. I am down in Norfolk and want to try and find the plot once I know the number, later this summer.
I am looking for Frederick Ernest SLATER who died on 15 September 1915 and was buried in Hedon Road Cemetery, Hull. He was born 14 August 1859 in Stourbridge, Worcestershire.
He died at 141 Anlaby Road, Hull, Yorkshire. His daughter Alice May Slater registered his death.
Many thanks for any help that you can give.
-
Hi and welcome to Rootschat...The Bereavement Services should be able to give you that information by email or over the phone...These details are given in earlier messages here.
Good Luck!

just wanted to say thank you to the people who helped me. I have spent many fascinating hours in Hedon Cemetery and found my ancestors graves. Returning soon as I have discovered more are there after spending fruitless hours in Eastern cemetery! thank you.
-
Can some one send me a plan of Hedon road cemetery grave number is 57/345 there are 3 people in it . THANK YOU
-
There is another person buried in Hedon cemetery he died in prison dec 1902
is stated as being Walter Votier burial number 626 grave number 64 /355 were prisoners buried in a special plot just for them.
-
See attached. 57 is along the perimeter wall of the Prison , 64 is actually below it.
I might nhave time next week to go over and have a look if you send me the details.
-
Many thanks for this I don't have many details only what the prison sent me from my enquiries.
Death certificate states he died 25 December 1902 while doing a prison sentence he was 28yrs.
Then I got a certificate of authenticity stating details are correct.
Walter Votier burial number 626 is interred in grave no.64 compartment no 355 (public grave) in the Hedon road cemetery.
His mother and aunt are 2 of the people in the 1st query I put on.
-
I'll pop over next week and take a look
Dan
-
Many thanks for this I didn't know whether the prison had their own part but its not that far from his mother. Thanks again look forward to your reply.
-
According to the Hull Daily Mail 21 Oct 1902 Walter Votier had no money for a bed and was walking around all night. He confessed to a constable at 1am of stealing two coats and a spirit level from the north eastern lobby whitefriargate. Items were the property of Samuel Winship and valued at 18s. Voiter was committed for trial at the sessions.
On 24th Oct he was sentenced to three months imprisonment on each charge, the sentences to run concurrently. This states the property belonged to William Winship and Reuben Baker.
-
Thank you so much for this info I never found out what he had done but they were a dysfunctional family I know that much .thank you again.
-
no problem. if you would like copies of the newspaper articles drop me your email address via private message and i'll send them over to you.
-
Thank you for the copies what more proof do you need than them.
-
Hi
Managed to pop over to Hedon Rd Cemetery, unfortunately I could not find any of those.
It might be worth checking the MI records. details of headstones were recorded some years ago.
They have copies at Hull History Centre http://www.hullhistorycentre.org.uk/ and would probably look it up for you or you could try EYFHS http://www.eyfhs.org.uk/
Sorry not to have been more help
