Hi - can anyone help with my brick wall please? Looking for a death record for Edith Marguerita Brown - maiden name Stoner. Edith was widowed in 1912 (her husband was Charles Watkins Brown) and her oldest sister Louisa refers to her in a letter dated Jan 1938 as having "been a widow for 26 years and has to earn her own living and she is nearly 70". This sister Louisa lived in Ealing so am guessing work area may be London, there was a mention of working at Toc H at some stage in her widowhood. A son Leslie Roy Brown was a school master in Western Australia. Louisa - the letter writer - died in 1939 and therefore no more info. I think Edith was probably the last of the family - most buried in Kingswood Gloucestershire. Edith Brown is a common name - so I am stumped - any clue on where to look would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A quick check on FreeBMD throws up this possibility"
March qtr 1939
Surrey South Western Vol 2a, page 663
Brown, Edith age 70
But, of course, she may have moved because of the war?

Thank you for your reply. Can you tell me if a death record or certificate shows the name of mother and father?

Hi Kina
Usually on the death cert of a young child under 'occupation' but only in England & Wales.
Other jurisdictions have different formats to their certs.
Some info here

A long time since the question was posed but I think her parents and siblings are those listed at www.stoner.org.uk/stoner2008/Fi2k.html#M173.
So Edith was the youngest. She was living in Brentford RD in 1911 and her husband's death was recorded there.
Her sister Mary Louisa may have died in 1939
Deaths Jun 1939
Bennett Mary L 79 Brentford 3a 297
An Ancestry tree - owner interestingly in Australia - has a photo and says she died in Portsea, Hants. Wrong age but the only one I spotted was
Deaths Jun 1953
BROWN Edith M 79 Portsmouth 6b 435
She married in 1Q1891 and was in Portsea in the 1891 census.

Thank you for your message - I am ever hopeful no matter how long it takes! Yes, they are the family listed on Alan Stoner's site. You are correct that Mary Louisa died in Brentford 1939 (14 May actually) In one of her letters to my grandmother she mentioned that the family vault at Kingswood was almost full, so I am not sure whether she was buried there or not, but her husband lived a further 10 years and he would have known her wishes. However because Edith was (supposedly) the last to die, I am not sure who would have made arrangements for her burial and whether they would have interred her with the rest of the family at Kingswood. I know the tree on Ancestry with the photo (the owner follows Edith's husband's family) I have seen the death ref. but am not quite convinced yet that the Portsea death is correct. I guess I need to enquire about the church burial records.
Thank you again. Regards

Reply to Dawn - My sincere apologies for failing to thank you for your message last year which gave info about certs etc. I don't know how I missed passing on my thanks - unless my reply is still in cyberspace (has been known to happen to me)
Anyway, thank you, I appreciate your input.
Kind regards

Just been looking at some 2008 correspondence with Cindy.
I speculated that Henry Scott Stoner, brother four years older than Edith, had a son William Scott Stoner 4Q1894-3Q1947.
He may have married in 4Q1935 William S Stoner to Margery D Waller, Edmonton 3a1777
but it's not the only possibility. If correct, and you contact me through the website I can offer contact details for a grandson.
