Title: Papermaker - Partington
Post by: Keith Bateman on Sunday 08 May 11 15:18 BST (UK)
Hi All

I am looking for some of my family who went from Manchester to Deven to make paper.

I rememberd that one of them drank "poison" and after this he worked as a wages clerk and died when he was about 40.

I am wondering how they all got there - was it by that new inveriol the train  ;D

                 Thant you

In the  1950s there was a paper making company Olive & Partington in Glossop Derbyshire, that is quite near to Manchester

Hi, some years ago I was in contact with someone connected to the Partington papermakers but cannot find that info yet. There was a family called partington from Lancs who were living in Ivybridge Devon and working at the local papermill - James and Frances were in Stretford Lancs 1861(he was papermaker) census but by 1871 in Ivybridge with large family and still there in 1891. If I can find details of the contact I will post it here.

 :)Ronnie

What a load of bol . . . derdash!

My paternal family (Garrad) moved around Suffolk & Essex for generations, then suddenly moved to Dorset, Devon, Swindon, Bath & Somerset within a couple of generations!
My mother's parents moved from Wiltshire and Kent to South Wales (where she was born) and then into North Somerset.

Industrial Revolution and all that.
