Please would someone decipher the occupation of William Fry. He is on the 1841 Census in Bethnal Green.
Thank you
Sue

Agent? Does the initial letter match anything else on the page?
A
-
It looks like Agent to me, also.
-
Have put census on as well. It does appear to match the A's
-
There's an Ann a few lines down the page,I don't think the A looks like that at all ::)
But I don't have a better suggestion!
Can't you find him in 1851?
Carol

Having enlarged the image, I would agree with Agent.
-
Could be A Gent- Short for Gentleman -but Agent seems more likely
-
Looks like we have settled on Agent. Now the difficult bit for me will be to find out agent for what.
Thanks everyone.

Sargeant
-
You could be Right!
There is a dot infront of the capital letter that could be the start of a very faint up hill sweeping line of a S
-
I did think it was saying sargeant also but not sure whether they have spelt it like it should be. Have you looked at the rest of the people on the census page as well? Does anything appear that can account to it i.e. anyone with a similar profession or rank.
-
Have since found him on childrens marriage certs as agent and also tailor!
Thanks

HA! Tailors agent
Collecting weekly money from people on the tailors on account customers list . Like corner shops did. Just an idea. Bob a week pay back.
-
So that was a real occupation then as a tailors agent?
