Title: 1911 census
Post by: Deslaw on Thursday 05 May 11 18:17 BST (UK)
Hi all,

I'm looking for members of the Bannigan family, living in Glasgow during the 1911 census.  Can anyone help?

Thanks

The 1911 census is only available on Scotland's People website and is pay per view for everyone. See www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

I don't know about anyone else but I am having very little success locating relatives who i know were alive in 1911 and as far as i know were in Scotland- the searches keep coming up with nothing- I am getting very frustrated and spending lots of money! is anyone else finding they are having difficulty getting results?

I have managed to find everyone I have been looking for so far.

Could the spelling of their name be different or mistranscribed

I had a MEEHAN as a MECHAN

it is probably something like that but the possible spelling s for Mc Phillamy are almost endless and then if it has been trancscribed incorrectly--- well it could take some time!!
Also one relative went by 3 different names too!

You have to perservere i have had no end of trouble and i think when you put credit on you get carried away err on the side of caution think double take 2 looks and go and make a cup of tea ( or something stronger ) sancti is correct over the course of the decades you see some strange changes to your family`s names ages it`s as if they are fed up them selves and play games with the census and birth lines etc of course the vast amount before the 1920s ??? where illiterate hence the same names being handed down through generations and if someone who could write said that was the way then that was the way just look at spellings of today`s parents for there childrens names they go phonetic crazy very american in attitude so keep going it will be worth while im sure if costly £££$$$$eeee no euro button pre decimal this key board.
