Hi, I am researching my Mother-in-Law's Family Tree. Her great grandfather was born John William Ripley in 1860 in North Kensington - the date and place of birth change throughout the Censuses. I cannot find a birth certificate for him. All the John William Ripley's I have looked at have a "Ripley" as the Father. On John's marriage certificate to Emma Holmes in 1883, his Father is registered as Samuel Muggeridge - occupation - artist? I may have found a link to a Ripley Family who were gypsies - maybe a Sarah Ann Ripley nee Blackman could have been John William's Mother but I cannot prove this.
Would appreciate your help, many thanks

Can you give us the census ref for him in 1891, after his marriage?

Have you looked for a John William Muggeridge ?...maybe he was born Muggeridge and his name was changed to Ripley if his mother married again ???

added...do you know whether his mothers name was Charlotte ?
John William Ripley christened in Burton upon - Trent - Holy Trinity church ... 4th december 1861
mother Charlotte
no father named
this John William Ripley could well have been born in Kensington ,London in 1860, but christened in Charlottes home town a year later ...just a thought...it is the only John William Ripley I can find around 1860

Hi Bev,
I am a relative of the same John Rippley with his ever changing names :-) I am stuck on the same issue so would love if you have gotten any further in the last few years.
Thanks
