Can anyone help with baptisms in Almondsbury, Gloucestershire area ?
I have George JARRETT, born 1839 Almondsbury. (he is on 1841 census age 12 living Gaunts Earthcott, working for farmer Thomas)
I have no baptism record.
There is a Henry JARRETT, age 40, a Blacksmith living Almondsbury, Gloucestershire on the 1841 Census)
I have no baptism record.
Could Henry be the father and George the son ?
Would be grateful for any help.

Is George born in 1829? He can't be 12 in 1841 if born 1839, or was he on the 1851 census aged 12? :)

Hi Bude,
What is the basis of your research?
A George JARRETT born c 1839, Almondsbury, Glous is Married to SARAH A in the 1881/1891/1901 Census.
Another is Married to Hester.
Did you get his Fathers Name as HENRY from his Marriage Cert and that is what you are trying to find? That is them together 1841/1851?
Who did your George Marry? Harriot and Sarah or Hester?
Can you name a Child of theirs and their DOB and POB please.
Trish :)

Sorry for the confusion - I have George age 12 on the 1851 census and NOT 1841 as I said. I cannot find George in 1841, but have found Henry age 40 on the 1841 census, a shoemaker, in Almondsbury. He may of course not be related, but the age could fit for being the father of George.
George Jarrett married Sarah Hughes in 1862, Clifton, Bristol.
Some of their children are Joseph born 1864 Patchway, Bristol, Frank born 1866 in Almondsbury, Bristol and Charles Henry born 1882 in Almondsbury.
Hope this is of some use, thanks for the help so far.

Hi Bude,
I hate to nag but you didnt answer my question.
Where did you get the name of Georges Father as Henry?
Was it his M/C?
Was Henry Occp Shoemaker on it?
George and Sarah had another Child you have not listed. You may have not found the 1871 census so here it is;
1871 Census ( under JANAT)
Bagwood Farm,
Almondsbury, Glous
RG10/2584/17/25
George JANAT, 33, Head, Mar, Ag Lab
Sarah, 30, Wife, Mar
Mark, 8, Son
Joe, 6
FRANK, 4
Mary Ann, 2
All born Almondsbury except MARK who is born Horsfield
I agree you have the correct 1851 Census for George indexed as Garrett.

1881 Census Mark Jarrett is in the "Horfield Barracks", Horfield, Glous and by 1891 is married to Alice E ( possibly nee BROWN, married 1887 from FreeBMD).
He is back living in Almondsbury area in 1891/1901 and a Brickmaker.
I cant find Georges Christening c 1839 unfortunately.

Thanks for all the info - I don't have a copy of George's marriage certificate, but I think I will have to get a copy in order to move on in finding his father. It was a wild shot that Henry could be his Dad when I found Henry on an 1841 census for Almondsbury. It was only 9 pages, so not too much digging !! Henry was the only possibility that was living in Almondsbury.
I was hoping that if I could find the baptism of George it would give me the names of his parents. Almondsbury Church (I know the area) does not seem to have its baptisms or buriels widely available.
I don't think there is any avenue left to me other than buy a marriage certificate of George and his wife Sarah.
Thank you once again for your help

Hi Bude,
Yes I think the Marriage Cert is the only option to go any further back.
I have tried everything I have access to to find him in other ways with no luck.
I even tried following up the Arabella House in 1881 Census and Niece Gertrude Jarrettt in 1901 Census with them.
Did you have the 1871?
I havent found him in 1861.
He may also be illeg and his Mother may have Married by 1841 and he is under the new Surname.
Let us know the outcome please as others have access to Records that may help when we know his Fathers name and ccp (ie if he was legitimate).

I too cannot find George in 1861, but have him in 1871 = RG10/2584.
The problem, I think, is with the spelling of Jarrett. I suppose he could even be Barrett !!
I will keep digging .........
