Hi,
was wondering if anyone could help me. I have hit a dead end when searching for some relatives. My great great grandparents were William Jarvis and Mary Jarvis (nee Logue) and lived in Londonderry from before the 1901 census. At the time of the census William was 35 and Mary 30. Although they lived in Londonderry the census states that they were both born in Co. Tyrone. This is where I am stuck - I can't find any information for either any further back and have no clue where to start looking as i don't know where in Co. Tyrone they were from. Any help or suggestions would be great.
Thanks

William Cummins Jervis and and Mary Logue in Co Derry in 1893
The familysearch site has that record and ALSO a record of the marriage of William Cummins Jarvis in 1917...did he marry twice?
According to the 1901 census William was born around 1866...familysearch has a William with a father James Jervis born in Castlederg Tyrone on 25th Nov 1864...mother Anne Calhoun.
Mary Logue was born around 1871
...family search has a Mary with a father Felix Logue born in Castlederg on 16th April 1871 mother Margaret Corry
There is a death of a Mary Jarvis in 1916 aged about 41 in Londonderry...so born around 1875 (familysearch)

Thank you both for your help.
You have given me something more to work with. If Mary died in1916 that would allow William to marry again in 1917 - information i wasn't aware of.
Were all the children listed born to the same parents as i didn't know the family was so big? I know there was a Susan Jarvis and i found a birth record for her in1918. I thought this was a large gap between oldest to youngest sibling but it now looks like she was part of a second family which makes more sense time wise.
Once again many thanks

I should have said the those were the children of William and Mary nee Logue.
Susan Jarvis father William and mother Martha....can't get a match for Harley...I've tried a few different spellings. I think Martha may have been married before.
There is a Martha in the 1901 census with a child, Tillie
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Londonderry/No__3_Urban/Fountain_Street/1529678
The child is a granddaughter of the Campbells' so that must be Martha's maiden name...so I searched for Martha Campbell as Susan's mother and got a hit!
I also found a Kathleen May D b.1918 with parents William and Martha nee Campbell...twins??
You'll notice in the census that Martha's mother's name is Susan!
Martha was married to John Harley in 1897:
Martha and John had 2 other children:
Civil Birth Rebecca Adams Harley 1901 Co. Derry
Civil Birth Annie Harley 1911 Co. Derry
Familysearch has a record of the death of Rebecca 1902 and the death of Matilda in 1902.

I couldn't find the Jarvis family in the 1911 census ...then I remembered that the Fountain Place area is missing from the census.
Here is William in 4 Fountain Place in 1912 signing the Ulster Covenant

Hi Kaz206
I noticed that you were requesting further information about your great grandparents, William Jarvis and Mary Logue. Well, William Cummins and Mary Logue were my grandparents as well. If you would like to contact me, maybe I can fill in a few gaps for you.

Hi Kaz
William Cummins Jarvis married Mary Logue, and had 4 sons: Thomas, Joseph, Leslie (John !) and Robert. They had 4 daughters: Margaret, Annie, Tilly (Mary !) and Jane. When Mary Logue died , William married Mary 'Jane' (Martha !). They had twin girls: Susan and Dorothy. I am the son of Robert, therefore the first cousin of 'Billy' Jarvis son of Tommy. I hope this helps, but it would be better in a private room where we could go into more detail. More later.

Thanks for getting back to me engineer. I know nothing about Roberts line so i would be glad to hear more. Are you sure that there weren't 5 girls as earlier posts suggest that Tillie / Matilda and Mary are different people? If you make one more short post on here you will be able to message me in private through this site. Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Kaz
Robert moved to England in the nineteen thirties and his family were then brought up in Birmingham. As for Tilly, I met her when I was a child. I also knew Annie, Jane and Maggie (who lived in Belfast) the daughters of Mary Logue. I also knew Susie and Dot, the twins of Mary Jane (Martha !), but I do not remember an Aunt Mary, unless she died early. As I am sure you are aware most of the family are still in Northern Ireland, but Roberts family stayed in England.
bye for now
