If anyone has a copy of the 1861 Somerset census, please please could you do a couple of lookups for me?
The first is George Lumbard, born 1798 Drimpton, and his wife Mary who were at the Crown Inn, Ilminster, Somerset? They had several children there but I can't seem to trace many of the children after the 1851 census and I'm hoping the 1861 might give me some clues!
The other one is from my Scott ancestors in Chard. John Scott, born Chard 1832 had already left home by 1861 and married Sarah Beale. John and Sarah may have been at Crimchard, Chard, where John's father Simeon and brother George were farming - perhaps John and Sarah also had a farm at Crimchard, Chard - or else they could have been at Combe St Nicholas, where their first child, Frederick Beale Scott, was born in 1860.
I would be really grateful if anyone could please do these two lookups for me! Many many thanks
Best wishes
Jennie

I'm studying all Combe St Nicholas folks and would love to learn more of John & Sarah, who I see married at St Andrews on 24 Apr 1860.
Cheers,

Hi Jenny
Yes, John and Sarah were married at Combe St Nicholas - and their first two children, Fred and Daniel, were born there, according to the census records.
John was born in Chard, and Sarah was born in Broadway - both their fathers were farmers. In the 1861 census their home was Forest Mills, in the Broadway registration district, but some time between 1861 and 1870, they left and moved up to London where their next three children were born ... the reason for that move is a mystery. But they then returned to Combe St Nicholas where their sixth child, Ernest, was born in 1870. They were still living there in 1871 - John was farming at Ham. By 1881, John and Sarah had moved to Chard, near John's father's farm. Sarah died three years later, and John remained in Chard, where he died in 1905.
