I think that she married William Wallace Duke in 1869 at St Michael, Ashton Under Lyne. She is listed as Mary Hyde. GF

In 1891 she can be found at census reference RG12/3275/124/6 and in 1901 she is widowed and can be found at census reference RG13/3782/147/13.

In 1851, incidentally, she can be found with her parents at census reference HO107/2233/336/4. GF

Dukinfield is within spitting distance of Ashton-u-Lyne, less than 1 mile south, so she could have been born in Dukinfield and christened in Ashton.

If you search for the surname Duke, born 1844 +/-1, with Ashton as the Place keyword, on http://www.GenesReunited.co.uk/search.page/index/census_1911 it indicates that she was born at Hurst.

Her death is registered in 1916 at Ashton Under Lyne (Q1 8d 625) aged 71. GF

This link (https://www.familysearch.org/search/recordDetails/show?uri=https://api.familysearch.org/records/pal:/MM9.1.r/9QR9-KNG/p4) shows the marriage to William Wallace Duke. She is listed (incorrectly) as Mary but her father is confirmed as John Hyde. GF

Hello,
I looked for her initially and wondered if you had the right one because of Ashton/Dukinfield. I am a bit confused now.

Are you still looking for Mally, daughter of John and Esther ?

The marriage at Oldham is John Hyde and Esther Drake- you probably just mistyped the information.

Yes I made that mistake and gave up when I discovered that Mally MASON died in the June quarter  of 1876 aged 31 in Ashton so, given that you found "your" Mally HYDE in 1881, Mally Mason nee HYDE can be eliminated from the search.

I would think so- comparing map from 1848 with a modern map it was in the area bounded by Curzon Road and Whiteacre Road

i have her on the 1881 census living at 30 park st North Meols Lancashire
If the daughter of John and Esther married Mr Duke and the daughter of James and Mary married Mr Mason, the lady listed at North Meols in 1881 cannot be either of them.

I wonder if she is actually Matty (who does not seem to appear anywhere else in 1881)?

??? i know its so confusing but it says she is a cook and servant age 37 of dukinfield cheshire  but it is spelt Mallie?
Title: Re: Mally Hyde 1844
Post by: heywood on Sunday 01 May 11 22:23 BST (UK)
Here is Matty:

1891  RG12; Piece: 3280; Folio 23; Page 40

126 Margaret Street Ashton under Lyne

William Hall widower 71 yrs Mechanic Iron Turner (retired) b Ashton-u-Lyne
Matty Hyde single 47 yrs General Servant (Domestic) b Dukinfield Cheshire

This fits with the fact that eliza Galt had returned to Ashton in 1891 and the other servant from 1881, Kezia Charlesworth was in service elsewhere in North Meols.

There is a death for her in 1892

It does say 'Mallie' you are right but one can only assume that it is an error
