I am trying to trace my husbands G.G.Grandfather, Daniel Devanney . He was married in Burnley,Lancashire in 1873 and in the marriage record of the church where he was married it gives his father's name as John, a ships carpenter and his mothers name was Mary and says ' The groom's family from Clenmenny,Donegal.
I cannot find any place of that name. Daniel was 21 when he married in 1873. I can find him on the 1881 census in England but not on later ones so I wonder if he returned to Ireland.

I would say the name of the place is Clonmany.

Here is a website, http://www.clonmany.com/genealogy/
Good luck.

Thank you. I too thought that might be the name of the town. Trouble is I have no idea which parish to begin to look for a birth. I will have a look at the web site you suggest.

I am still trying to find my husbands G.Grand father's family. I believe now they were from the Townland of Cleenderry in the Parish of Templecrone. His name was Daniel Devanney or Devaney. His father was John Devanney (Devaney) who on Daniels marriage certificate is given as a ships carpenter.
I think Daniel was born c 1850 and his mothers name perhaps Maria. Any help tracing this family would be appreciated.
