I am not looking so much for the information about people, but the home in which they lived:
Manor House, Horbling, Lincolnshire
we believe it may have been demolished in the 1930's or even before.
my family lived there between 1830 and 1880 ( Anthony Creasey Taylor b 1791 and then his Son George Henry Taylor b 1830)
I also understand the property is referred to in a copy of Lincolnshire life sometime in the 70's ( I can get this from Lincoln Archives but as yet have not got round to it)
I have pretty much done everything in terms of looking for information, viewing maps at the National Archives and the like but so far nothing. We do not have the specific location on census documents, tax returns, wills or directories.
I am looking for any information, even pictures - some one out there (you maybe?) just might have something.
All we have is the attached sketch drawn by a family member in 1914

Hi Ancestry, If you type Horbling Manor House into Google, there is an article about wartime evacuees returning to the Manor House Horbling after 60 years. Hope this is of interest to you. Regards Del.

Thank you Del that is very useful to have. The reference to Manor House is only a brief one , and I had thought it to have been demolished in the 30's - have written to the Newspaper for Clarity as sometimes it is confused with Horbling Hall.
Thanks it was a great find.

Hi
I happen to have a photo of the Old Manor House Horbling, regrettably it doesn't look anything like the picture. I however can, like someone else did, identify with a degree of certainty the location of the site in the picture. But I ask the question was the picture actually drawn in 1914? this is because the property was included in a sale of the Conant estate which I have a map of and details of the property. It was then held by Mr Dickins and was as it is now a pair of cottages. The cottages are of some interest as one un-rendered gable end is made of good stone. An earlier enclosure map indicates that there might have been a different building on the site and it might have possibly been the new Manor House, This would be interesting. There is no other mention of such a building. Therefore I would be keen to investigate this further as I live in Horbling and am active in local history. I also, from church records, have a number of items about various members of the Taylor family. Are you interested in these as well? Typically in 1829 'The surveyor of the Highways reports to the Vestry that he has received the most abusive language from John Taylor and that he cannot make him work' What other local name are of interest?

Hi Marek
That would be interesting. I'd like to see that image and talk more.
Do you mind taking this off line and emailing me at danny (@ ) billingtonuk.com
Many thanks

I'm travelling at the moment but when I return I'll send you a copy of the photo which is filed at the Archive as the Manor House. It is the same one that appeared in Lincolnshire Life, I have a copy of this article somewhere in my files. You will see from the photo that it is totally different from your picture and the house is next to the road not sited across the village stream as in your picture. Map detailed map of 1913 shows that, other than Sandygate Home Farm there are no large properties along the stream. They are almost exclusively pairs of cottages. Some in the pub last night question why the Archive photo is labelled as the Manor House. And that there used to be more buildings behind the pair of cottages currently on the site. Anyway could you confirm the date of the picture because certainly by 1913 the only possible candidate property had been modified.
I'll send you the photo next weekend.
Regards Mark

I have never seen the Lincolnshire life article, knew of it but could not find a good quality accessible image.
I have examined maps at the National archives for the period but without success.
There are 2 almost identical copies of our sketch, one in UK and the other in Canada. The artist was about 24 when he made them, so the date is correct/ Also ties in with emigration information.
When I have visited Horbling , I believe the most likely location for Manor House to be what is now 22 High street = entrance to Sandy Gate Farm, which includes outbuildings similar to those in the sketch. (not sure if I mention that elsewhere) , this might tie into a couple of other things too, the proximity pm high street of other family members and the information we had some years ago, that the property may have been demolished in the 30's.
Interesting your reference to John Taylor as I am not sure if he was one of ours. our family came to Horbling from Heckington via Great Hale - the majority of Taylor's in Heckington were connected to us in someway. including William , died 1723, who you will find beneath the carpet at the alter of St Andrews in Heckington. We did not have a John living at that time , could have been a Taylor from another area - also ( from Memory) there was a Taylor incumbent at Horbling St Andrews at some point , he was not ours and be more likely to use abusive language than any of ours :-)
There are 4 Taylor's in Horbling buried close to the church path - they lived in Manor House, some of the Barnes family buried to the rear of the church were related and we were connected through marriage to The pub landlord of the 1870's Brackenbury through Taylor then Short ( Billingborough) - we may have had a milling interest with him. Also Crow of Bicker, Creasey, Jones, Barnes, Almond to name a few.
Looking forward to your email
Dan
