Title: MAVING/MAVIN - Tynemouth
Post by: Carlene63 on Tuesday 26 April 11 07:58 BST (UK)
My ancestor Ellen/Elleanor MAVING/MAVIN died on the 19th May 1878 at Lawson Street, Chirton, Tynemouth, Northumberland.
I am wondering if anyone has access to the newspapers in that area for that time and could look up a death and or funeral notice for her. I would dearly love to know where and when she was buried.
She was the wife of Robert.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

CAK,

FreeBMD site shows the registration of death of a 71 yr old Ellen Mavin at Tynemouth Registration District.  But registration in the March Quarter, ie. 1st Jan - 31st March.

A death in May would have been indexed in the June Quarter ( ie 1st April - 30th June )

No Mavin/variation death in June Qtr ??

Hi,

The burial more than likely took place at Preston Cemetery.

I'm going to North Shields Library next week.  I'll have a look at the burial register and newspaper index for you.

Regards,

Trini.

Hi,

A quick glance at the newspaper index didn't give any results.  I then took a quick look in the burial register and couldn't find anything for Preston cemetery.  I will look again next week at Tynemouth general cemetery.  She's got to be somewhere!

Regards,

Trini.

Thank you very very much Trini, that is fantastic information. Is there any indication that there may be a headstone?
Her husband Robert, I think died in Sept Q 1842 in Rothbury. I think that their son lived there then?
Would you please be so kind to check and see if they are buried together?
sorry that I have been so long in getting back to you, I have been away from the computer for weeks.
Thank you very much gratefully appreciate it.

Robert may have died in December quarter 1877.
Sorry I am not sure which one it is.

Hi,

Have you checked census records?  There is a family in Percy Main in 1871:
Robert b. 1812
Ellin b. 1809
Thomas b. 1844

If this is the family you are interested in, I will check the burial index for 1877 for Robert for you.

Just let me know, I will be at the library next week.

Hi Trini,
Yes that is the family.
Ellen married Peter Gregory in 1824 and had, Timothy (Charles) Phillip, Peter (My ancestor) and Emmanuel. Peter drowned falling from a boat in 1833.
Ellen remarried Robert Mavin in 1834 in South Shields and had Robert 1840, Thomas 1843 and George 1847 (that I can find still alive)
1841 census living in South Shields
Robert, Ellen, children Charles, Peter Emmanuel and Robert.
1851 census Percy Bank Chirton
Robert, Ellen, children Charles, Peter, Emmanuel, Robert, Thomas and George
1861 census 94 Middle Row Chirton
Robert, Ellen, children Robert, Thomas, George and Roberts parents george and Jane.
1871 yes to what you have.
I don't know if Thomas stayed in the house, I have to do more research on him.
I have not been able to trace the Mavin children Robert, Thomas and George definetly as there are a few possibilities.
Charles I am not sure about either, need to do more research on him.
Peter Gregory junior came to Victoria Australia.
Emmanuel was a ship man and moved around and he died in 1906 in Walker Street Byker.
It is possible that Thomas who was still living with them may be buried there as well,.
If you can find anything I would be wrapped and overjoyed. Thanks very much.

Thank you very much Trini, greatly appreciate the infor that you have found for me.
Just another question, I am also tracing Allison and I see that you have Allison on your list for research.
My ancestor was George Allison who married Ann Fairless and had 3 children Mary, Robert and Frances, then Ann died and George remarried Eleanor Hall.
there children were Timothy Charles, elizabeth, Eleanor and Isabella.
Eleanor is the lady who married Gregory then remarried Mavin.

Are we tracing the same family
