Moving on to the other side of my family, the CRUMPLINS, could anyone confirm for me that my uncle, William Crumplin, is on the Hartley Wintney War Memorial? I believe he was in the Royal Hampshires and died in France in 1916 - any responses gratefully received.
I have recently discovered more about my 'other half', the Crumplin family
Both my mother's older brothers were in WW1, William was killed in 1914, Bert returned and married a Yorkshire girl and moved to Ilkley.
Their father, William, died in 1916 but their mother, Ellen Taphouse Gould, lived until ?1947. Her mother was Ann Gould, of Elvetham, who was in domestic service.
I believe there are/were other Crumplin and Gould families in the Hartley Wintney and Elvetham areas, I wonder if the names ring any bells?

You probably have these details but William died 2NOV1914, has no grave and is on the Ploegsteert Memorial at Hainaut Belgium. Full details are on the Commonwealth War Graves site.
Crumplins from Dogmersfield married into one of my families.

Thank you; yes, I have been given details of Will's memorial in France, and also on the Hartley Wintney Memorial.
I believe my grandfather was the child of Thomas Crumplin and his wife Ann Lovelock, and that he had a number of siblings; Sarah, Mary, Emma, Sophy, Hannah, Henry, (then William), Betsy and George.
It looks as though he married again, to Mary Ann Sutton, and had two stepdaughters, Sarah and Ellen Sutton.
There were certainly Suttons in Hartley Wintney when I was there during the war, and it is possible that some of these names occur also.
