Isablla M Wakefield and Mary Ann Wakefield arived in New York on the ship New York in 1895 where did they go from there? Mothers name was Jane not Jean
-
Hello Keith,
Checking the passenger lists both Isabella and Mary appear on a 1895 passenger list (typo error perhaps ;)) both described as ladies maids. Not finding either on the 1900 Census so perhaps they could have married by then.
One of the other passengers listed under them was Mrs Gule, described as a lady, so perhaps they were travelling with that party. Not to easy to decipher the name Gule and there are 3 children underneath called Yule - have you tried to find this family to see if it throws any light on things ?

There's a death notice for Isabella Blair from 1967 in a Yonkers newspaper at www.fultonhistory.com, but there doesn't appear to be anything in it to rule her in or out as your Isabella aside from a middle initial of M.
-
Wait - I found a longer obit there & her parents were Richard Wakefield and Jean Mair. She was survived by a son, as well as a nephew with the surname Wakefield in Yonkers.

There is information about ordering vital records from New York City here:
www.nyc.gov/html/records/html/vitalrecords/home.shtml
As an alternative, you may be able request copies through the Church of Latter-Day Saints, which would probably be less expensive. The form is here
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/RG/images/FReqMicrofilm.pdf T
The library catalog is here - http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp
If you do this, be sure to include the certificate number that's on italiangen.org. Or if you have a Family History Center near you, you could order the microfilm & check it yourself.

Hi Sandra <img src="http://r12.imgfast.net/users/1211/18/99/91/smiles/61485.gif">
I'd just like to thank you for all the information on this thread - I'm a relative of Keith who started the thread.
I think the Cape May information may also relate to us, as when I did some brief research on the Wakefield's out there, I found who I thought to be Andrew, the elder brother living in Cape May NJ working I think at the Sugar plant there.
The other connections that have been made - Isabella to William Blair living in Yonkers, I did also find...but hadn't a clue about all the other information of their descendants, so this is all so interesting to me!
Thank you once again <img src="http://r12.imgfast.net/users/1211/18/99/91/smiles/574242.gif">
and Hi Keith <img src="http://r12.imgfast.net/users/1211/18/99/91/smiles/61485.gif">

Hello LottieB,
Your very welcome. Yes, I see Andrew Wakefield in Cape May. New Jersey, single in 1920. The 1906 Passenger list indicated Andrew was a carpenter and going to the National Sugar Refinery, Yonkers. New York. There was a 1930 entry which looks like him as well but the birth date was 1856 on that, so his age was varying.
All The Best
Sandra ;)

Thanks Sandra! <img src="http://r12.imgfast.net/users/1211/18/99/91/smiles/945630.gif">
Andrew wasn't really a Wakefield, he was illegitimate and his mother Jane and Richard married in Scotland after he was born, but then told porkies on their subsequent son's birth cert as to their actual marriage date so Andrew himself might even have been confused as to his actual year of birth - who knows lol!
Andrew was really a Bremner, but was never known as such (there's a thread on Rootschat somewhere about this which I did a while ago as an ID Cuddlye where someone helped me to find the information).
It seems to make sense that this is our Andrew given that the other siblings are all in the area and emigrated at a similar time.
I wonder if he ever knew he wasn't really a Wakefield? <img src="http://r12.imgfast.net/users/1211/18/99/91/smiles/964687.gif">

Just found the other thread:

Hi LottieB,
Yes, just had a read through and quite possibly he never knew. Did you trace all the Wakefield siblings ?
Noticed that Isabella middle name was that of the Minister that married the parents apparently.
Sandra ;)
