Hi everyone,
Have hit a brick wall and need some help please
have Winifred Kane born June quarter 1912 Auckland Co Durham with mothers maiden name of Deraine (from free BMD) but can get no further. Can anyone help me with mothers/fathers first names please. My wife would be most grateful as Winifred was her grandmother and she would like to know more about her. many thanks in advance Rich

Do you have the right birth registration? there is a death for a Winifred Kane
age 1 year Oct.qtr 1913 Auckland Durham

I am presuming she is the one that married John Horan - when / where did she die

There is also a Winfred Irene Kane of South Shields born 1908 with parents Robert Kane and Mary Jane [McGahan]
There is a marriage in Newcastle 1901 of a William Kane and Mary Jane Dereine.

Hi Rosie99,
She is the one that married John Horan but have no idea as to when she died (possibly mid 1980's) but she lived in Shildon all her life. She married for a second time to a man called Bill (William) after John died in 1975/6.

She married William Jackson in 1980. (Jun ¼ Durham Western)-the only Winifred Horan marriage to anyone named William in that time period

The Kane/Dereine marriage is the right one and as soon as i said William Jackson to my wife she said that was the right one.
On the Kane and Dereine side we now need to find out about them.
Have noticed your research interests include the name Lamb. On my wifes fathers side of the the family we have Mary Lamb born 1918 Bishop Aucland (Father Thomas Lamb and mother Mary Lord). Would any of these names have cropped up in your research?

I don't think its the right Winifred.
On William Kanes 1st World War Service Record (at enlistment 1915), he is aged 37, married to Mary Jane Deraine on 21/9/01 in Newcastle, but only has two children : Samuel b. 11/12/07, and Mary Catherine b. 28/12/09 (both in Bishop Auckland).
The Winifred b. 1912 Bishop Auckland, must be the one died Bishop Auckland age 1 in 1913, as noted by slaw.

If you get a copy of the marriage cert it will give her fathers name, then you can trace father and mothers marriage

there is a death for a Winifred Jackson age 84 Feb 1991 Durham Western birthdate is given as 30th Oct 1906 (Durham Western covers Shildon)
There is a birth reg for a Winifred Cain Dec qtr Auckland 10A251(this covers october to December)The difference is in the spelling of the surname.
